  • Family-run Somerset campsite near Bridgwater, with easy M5 access
  • A 15-minute drive to the Quantock Hills, and 20 to Burnham-on-Sea
  • Modern showers, communal kitchen and dog run; pubs 10 minutes’ drive
Looking for a quiet, family-orientated caravan park with generous-sized pitches in Somerset? Your search is over, for Newton Brook Caravan and Camping near Bridgwater is that place. It’s a friendly spot to overnight (it’s a short drive from Junction 24 of the M5 motorway) if you’re heading to Cornwall, or for longer stays if you’d like to make further forays into Somerset. Facilities to make life easy for families on site are tiptop, with a spotless, contemporary shower and loo block, plus a communal kitchen with fridges, microwave and washing-up sinks to make rustling up supper a breeze. North Petherton village (10 minutes’ drive) is the spot for picking up essentials in the convenience store (and it has a sprinkling of pubs and cafés if cooking is off limits on your holiday). As well as welcoming kids – there’s green space on site to play around safely and a smartly kitted-out games room to keep everybody occupied – the park is dog-centric too. Any canine with a zoomie attack can run around in the enclosed field, and there are walks aplenty along the Taunton Bridgwater Canal to tire everybody out (dog included). The park is located right next to a family farm, so you can often spot cattle and sheep grazing contentedly in surrounding fields, with the chance to see gambolling lambs in early spring and calves a bit later in the year.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: What a lovely, quiet, small site. Friendly, accomodating staff who showed us around and explained the facilities, and seemed genuinely interested in the reason for our stay and our plans. Put us on a great pitch and advised how best to park and where the sun rose and set. The toikets and showers were absolutely immaculate and looked brand new. There were fresh flowers and pots of sweets that were topped up daily. My son adored the games room, which I felt catered well to the little ones as well as older children and adults (3 types of dart boards, table tennis, fooze ball, air hockey, 2 tyoes of pool tables, board games, chess set, puzzles, books amd dvds.. Excellent washing up facilities also, with the unexpected bonus of a MICROWAVE!!! whoch meant easy evening meals for my very picky eater. There were fridges and freezers to use, and the sinks had mini washing up bowlsnin them with a number of Fairy washing up bottles, and freshly laundered tea towels each day. Can’t rate this site highly enough, and far superior to others we have been on, and is exactly as described (unlike one site we went to which has a steep embankment listed as slightly sloping). Locally there are lots of shops and playparks; with an excellent one being under 2 minutes drive. We will definately be returning and trying out some of the local attractions we didn’t make it to on our short stay.

Disliked: Nothing

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Wonderful site with fantastic host, showed us in and took us around the site, and was always available if needed. Excellent check in times and departure times, it really does make the difference. Games room was great to occupy the kids during the quiet times of the day. Toilet and other facilities are modern and immaculate, including kitchen room with microwave and fridges. Great childrens park up the road from the site along with tescos express (short drive or long walk). Great location not far off the M5 so easy to get to other location for your days out. Will definitely be returning in the future.

Disliked: Nothing we disliked about our stay, maybe some less amenities/facilities in comparison to other sites, but cant fault because the price is well worth the stay.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Friendly and made to feel very welcome from the start. Well serviced and spacious plot. Facilities were spotless and everything worked brilliant. Friendliness continued until we drove out the gate to a cheery wave and a good luck from the warden. Flowered and sweets on the facility block was a really nice touch

Local attractions

If you’re planning on sticking around in Somerset for a while, you’re in pole position here for days out exploring by car. Head to north-coast beaches like Berrow (half an hour’s drive) and Burnham-on-Sea (20 minutes) for some family fun splashing in the shallows, or turn south and treat the kids to a day out on the rollercoasters and 4D rides at Crealy Theme Park and Resort (50 minutes). Rather explore on foot? There's plenty of choice for walkers around here, with the gorgeous Quantock Hills (15 minutes) or Blackdown Hills Areas of Outstanding Nature Beauty (40 minutes) riddled with hiking trails. Travel a little further and you can discover the walking routes of wild Exmoor, as well as historic spots like Tarr Steps clapper bridge (an hour) and the pretty town of Dulverton (50 minutes). Other places you might like to consider exploring are Wells (45 minutes), with its spectacular cathedral and castle, or funky little Glastonbury (40 minutes), awash with hippy shops and cute little cafés.
