Dapplewood Caravan Site: Sunny and shady pitches

General

  • Adults-only site in peaceful Dorset countryside
  • Top spot for slow-paced getaways
  • 30-minute drive from Bournemouth and the Dorset coast

Feeling frazzled from the constant to and fro that is modern life? At Dapplewood Caravan Site, an adults-only site in Dorset, less than a mile from the village of Holt and a 10-minute drive from the market town of Wimborne, you can let all those stresses melt away.

Dapplewood is a great base if you want to switch off from the manic real world: slow things down with a stroll on Holt Heath less than five minutes’ drive from the site, explore Moors Valley, 10 minutes away, or centre yourself with a strawberry picking excursion at Holt Wood Farm.

Back on site, you’re in a top spot to unwind. The site keeps distractions to a minimum, so you can be sure of some peace and quiet – take Rex for a walk off-lead in the two acres of ash and oak woodland or relax at the picnic area under the trees, gazing out over the fields next to the site.

Barbecues are encouraged at Dapplewood, so feel free to pile one high with all your faves and chow down. You can grab supplies from one of the shops in Wimborne or, if you’d prefer to have someone else do the cooking, venture across the fields to the local gastropub or nab a table at one of the many restaurants with 10 minutes of the site.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

This park has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.

It is what it is. A small and simple site. OK for overnighter tourers.01/17/2022

    Disliked:

Not real hard stands, very muddy. Close to road. Chemical toilet disposal is lifting the man hole cover to the main sewer. Not perfect. Needs better signage.

From the manager...

We are a woodland site and it is January in winter. It is muddy in countyside areas on days when it pours with rain as it did during your visit. The hardstandings are renewed every 2 years and get mud on them sometimes as inevitably the odd guest may drive over the wet grass to park larger vehicles. We do have sineage asking them keep to hardstanding areas. There is a large Dapplewood sign immediately outside of the entrance gate about 2 x 1 ft wide. Everyone finds us with sat nav or a quick call and we guide them in. We have to respect that we are in a very small village and our sign is not too commercial. As we are a certified location site we do not offer the facilities of a large busy family site and to be fair the country lane we are on averages about one car every 10 minutes but we completely accept that a small natural cl site like ours is not for everyone.

Very nice relatively small site (which I like). The site was clean and tidy and the owners were very friendly and helpful. We booked an electric only pitch but water was available plus a bin area and chemical disposal. The nearest pub was also an excellent choice. We stayed one night but would have been happy to stay longer. We had two small dogs with us and were not charged extra for them as some other sites do. No shower or toilet facilities on site but that's why we have a motorhome.

We didn't have enough time to explore the surrounding area but had a short walk and enjoyed what we did see. The site is fairly quiet over night so easy to sleep. We also managed to make use of their wifi.
