  • Family-run farm site with fab Corfe Castle and Purbeck Hills views
  • Spacious pitches a 10-minute drive from Swanage and Wareham
  • A five-minute walk to Harman’s Cross steam railway train station
Dawdle down Dorset way for a dreamy break at the fab family-run Purbeck Valley Farm. This park is a champion choice for its location – it’s in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a 10-minute drive away from both the inland town of Wareham and Swanage at the coast. Plus it also has gorgeous views… Corfe Castle and the pretty Purbeck Hills are visible from the pitches and you can wander directly towards these destinations via local footpaths and bridleways. Harman’s Cross train station is a five-minute stroll for steam rail trips to Swanage and Corfe Castle (pre-booking essential). Is it lunchtime yet? To get eats on the go, stick around Corfe Castle and order food in a local pub or stock up on ingredients at the shop and garage a couple of minutes’ drive from the site before cooking over coals by your pitch (barbecues are allowed). Another wise option when it comes to nourishment is to pack food in a picnic hamper and take it towards one of several sandy beaches within a 30-minute drive, such as Studland (15 minutes), Swanage (10 minutes), Lulworth Cove (half an hour) or Durdle Door (half an hour). Back on base as evening draws in, lounge on your spacious pitch or use the time to organise yourself using the park's essential facilities, including toilets, showers, a washing-up area and recycling bins.

What customers say

Lovely, quiet spot with epic views, perfect for Corfe Castle & Swanage. Basic, clean facilities, especially the showers. Owners are friendly, loads of space, fire pits allowed. A few found the ground tricky, dim lights, and some road noise, but great value. Would happily come back!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great facilities, very clean and maintained and well located, only a few minutes from Corfe Castle and slightly further for the rest of the Jurassic Coast. Provided a good starting location for a scenic bike ride too! You can choose where you pitch up on the (huge) field meaning you can be as close or far from others.

Disliked The promotional images feature a stunning view of the Castle and the steam train rolling through the hills... but don't be fooled. This is only seen from the motorhome field, with no facilities, and cannot be seen from the tent field. Quite a disappointment to be honest. The only other thing was there is only cold water from the washing up taps, though the showers are meters away to grab a bucket of warm water.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We spent a wonderful weekend at Purbeck Valley campsite. There were quite a few people but the site is spacious so there's plenty of room between pitches. It is a lovely quite site so perfect for families. The facilities are clean and well maintained - just make sure you showered before sunset as there are no lights! We pitched west facing and could watch that glorious sunsets over the hills. On a clear night there are more stars than we have ever seen before, well worth getting up to watch the shooting stars in August. There's plenty to do within a short drive in every direction, or just relax on site. We really enjoyed our stay and hoping to return again next year.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Absolutely fab location, beautiful views, and a really warm welcome! Basic site, but the facilities were clean and functional.
Most importantly (for us at least) it was chilled, quiet, relaxing and set in fantastic surroundings. We were super lucky with the weather (this time) - I’d image in wetter times it could get a bit boggy!

Disliked For us, for this visit, nothing at all - we have all our facilities on board, so didn’t really have cause to use much at the site. Weather made it!

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Freedom to pitch wherever you like.
Large fields with plenty of space for kids to be wild and free
Good price for peak season
Good location
Bus stop out on road with good links to train station and locations
Generally nice quiet site bar the road.

Disliked Very busy road all hours of day and night (Top field) next time we would choose different field to stay in.
Most fields are on a slope
Facilities, depending where you stay toilets and showers are bit of a walk. Our closest toilets where in a private part of the camp site which 3 days into our stay we were told was going to be closed for the remaining of our stay. We had option to move but we all no once set up you ain't moving till you go :) so for the remaining stay it was a drive or 10 min walk to the toilets. Lucky we are self sufficient but family staying with us only had tent.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Great views, level pitches, good location and a bus stop right outside.

Disliked Showers were a bit grim. Not the cleanest and all the sealant was mouldy.

Local attractions

If you’re in Dorset for a beach break but fancy seeking out quieter shores than the particularly popular Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove (half an hour’s drive), check out Winspit Quarry, Seacombe Cliff and Chapmans Pool (15 minutes). All are easily reached via Worth Matravers (10 minutes), a village with an award-winning pub. Poole (half an hour) tends to be a little busier but is worth bustling towards for a look at the big natural harbour and Georgian-era old town, while Swanage (10 minutes) is a must for its views of the spectacular chalk-white cliffs. For countryside tours once you’re done with the coast, check out the atmospheric ruins of Corfe Castle close to the site (35 minutes’ walk), then drive to the RSPB Arne nature reserve for a bit of birdwatching. Organised days out at family-friendly attractions more your bag? Peer at the primates in Monkey World (20 minutes), amble among the armoured machines at the Tank Museum in Bovington (25 minutes) and chug through the countryside old-school style on the Swanage steam railway.
