  • Back to basics Purbeck pitches at the foot of Nine Barrow Down
  • A 15-minute drive from Swanage and Studland beaches
  • Excellent walking/cycling site on a lane from Swanage to Corfe Castle
Knaveswell Farm is a quiet Dorset farm site just at the foot of Nine Barrow Down, on a quiet lane that runs from Corfe Castle to Swanage. It’s a cracking spot for walkers or cyclists, who can head out on that lane to hit either location with a journey of two and a half miles. And it’s also a cracking spot for those who’d simply like to plonk down, open a beer and chill out while taking in the views – either up towards Nine Barrow Down or over towards Langton Matravers and Swanage (and the sea) depending on which way you’re looking. It’s a pick-your-own pitch setup here, so you can have a little look around and decide which of those views you’d like to angle yourselves towards. Facilities here are on the simple side – there are no showers, but guests have access to four clean portable toilets, four cold water taps, a chemical disposal point and rubbish bins. Barbecues are allowed (as long as you’re careful with them), and dogs are welcome to join you for a stay here too. Time to get out and about? You’ll have plenty of choice here: the beaches at Swanage and Studland are both about 15 minutes’ drive away, and the gorgeous views of Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove about half an hour away. Monkey World and the Tank Museum can be reached with a drive of about 25 minutes, or you can stick a little closer to home for a ride on the Swanage Railway from Harman’s Cross (five minutes’ drive away).
