  • Peaceful secluded park over a 30-acre wildlife haven
  • Bournemouth and Christchurch 20 minutes' drive
  • Woodlands walks, pitch and putt, library and boules all available
Spread over 30 acres of Dorset woodland, river, heathland and lakes, Back of Beyond meanders over countryside naturally inhabited by a wide variety of wildlife: look out for deer, squirrels, moles, rabbits and the soaring sights of birds including the resident woodpecker. The site is dog friendly too (apart from in one of the wildlife-laden accommodation areas) and there's a 10-acre woodland area set aside especially for canines. Restful pastimes include boules, woodland walks, and a five-acre nine-hole pitch and putt course among the squirrels, moles and rabbits (hire the necessary bits and pieces on site). Facilities here include heated toilet and shower blocks, a private disabled shower room, hairdryers, washing-up areas, a reception area, Monty's Bar and a shop. Essential supplies (food and beer) can be found at the two excellent pubs within walking distance; supermarkets, restaurants and two caravan and camping centres are within a few minutes by car.

What customers say

Great for adults! Immaculate facilities, friendly staff, and peaceful vibes. Monty's bar & food trucks are winners. Spacious pitches, great for dogs. Wi-Fi can be patchy, gravel paths noted.

Emma's Glade non-electric grass campervan or tent pitch (no pets, wild)

Liked The site was well laid out with some excellent points of interest. We especially enjoyed following the nature trails around the 'lakes' and wooded area. Having a 'pitch and put' golf course was a lovely touch. Facilities were ample and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Situated with easy access to external supermarkets and pubs. We adventured along the local river walk, into Hurn forest and the Avon Heath Country park (some lovely snacks and drinks were enjoyed at the cafe here too). The site is situated in an ideal place for wider exploration into Dorset and Hampshire, especially useful for journeys into Bournemouth or Poole.

Disliked The road into the camp was narrow; this isn't the campsite's fault but a small minority of drivers thought they owned it making it uncomfortable for other road users.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. I'm so sorry to hear you that you found our park noisy. We are a popular park and do get busy, however, we do have a policy of quiet time from 10.30pm and ask all our guests to be respectful of this. In your welcome pack there was an out of hours telephone number and our warden's would have been happy to come out and deal with the noise issue. All dog owners are asked to keep their dogs on a lead when on the park and if our staff see any dogs not on a lead the owners are reminded of this. We sincerely apologise that these issues spoilt your stay, however, had they been reported we may have been able to prevent it becoming a problem for you. We do get a lot of returning customers but understand that it's not for everyone.

Emma's Glade non-electric grass campervan or tent pitch (no pets, wild)

Liked Our 2nd year staying at Back of Beyond, in Emma's Glade, wild camping. Another great long weekend away with our sister & brother in law.
Site is perfect for an adult only short break. The facilities are superb & so clean: Showers, toilets, washing up sinks.
Has great bar - Monty's Bar fantastic staff with great selection of drinks. Loads of board games to use. Every afternoon & evening pop up food vans, our visit was fish & chips & gourmet burgers, both very reasonably priced. The shop has selection of food and daily fresh bread, pastries etc
Beautiful walks around site.
Plenty to do locally or with 30 minutes drive.

Astro Turf electric hardstanding and grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked Attention to detail very friendly and caring staff who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. Extremely dog friendly was very welcomed by us and our Frenchie Mabel. The rules around being quiet after 10,30pm and adult only site meant that we slept the best we have ever slept in our tent on any campsite. Highly recommend happy hour at Monty's bar as well as the catering vans. Definitely booking again very soon!

Non-electric grass pitch (pet friendly)

Liked This was by far the loveliest campsite I have ever stayed at. No noisy children disturbing the peace and from the second we arrived, staff were welcoming and helpful and because we had decided not to bring the dog they offered us the choice of a different pitch which honestly made our stay, as was much cooler than the dog friendly area with plenty of trees for shade and within a few metres of a small lake. The place has a lovely woodland walk where dogs can be off lead. The showers, toilets, laundry and dishwashing areas were spotless. There is always somebody about to help and nothing is too much trouble. There is a little shop for snacks and forgotten essentials but our favourite bit was Monty's Bar which is so much more than the "pop up" bar described on the 'Pitch Up' website. Unfortunately the namesake cat, Monty died 3 months ago so we did not get to meet him. The bar has plenty of seating under cover and outside, nice decor and friendly bar team. There's even a happy hour between 4 and 5pm. If you do not fancy cooking, there are different food vans each evening including Thai, jacket potatoes, fish and chips and pizza. A bakery delivers each morning to reception if you pre order the day before. We had intended going exploring but it was so relaxing and pretty on site, we didn't leave and we're very sad to have only booked 2 nights. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful mini break!

Disliked Disliked having to get our tent pegs into hard ground after weeks of no rain. Haha. Seriously, there is nothing to dislike. It's perfect!

Some guests have issues with the site address when put into some satnav devices. Please print out these directions and follow these when you are close to the site to ensure you find the site easily. From the north or east: From the M3, take J14 onto the M27 westbound and join the A31 (signposted Ringwood). Pass Ringwood; stay on the A31 to St. Leonards and pass St. Leonards Hotel on left. At the next roundabout (signed Boundary Lane), turn right into the site lane. Take care: this turn is set back from the roundabout by a few yards, so look for the site sign and one for Shamba. From the west: Follow the signs for Ringwood on the A31 eastbound. Pass The Woodman pub on your left. At the next roundabout go straight over and immediately left into the site lane. Drive straight down the lane, pass Shamba and go through the twin towers to the site barrier. When you arrive at the barrier system press the button for attention.
