  • Fishing lake, play area and shop on site
Want to feel on top of the world? Travel down to Dorset and Golden Cap, the highest point on the south coast of England and part of a 2000-acre National Trust estate. Golden Cap Holiday Park is the most cap-tastic place to take all this in, as it’s surrounded by peaceful Dorset countryside and part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. And, as should be expected in Dorset, it’s right next to the water – in the seaside village of Seatown and 150 metres from a shingle beach known for its sea angling and fossil hunting. Facilities at the park are excellent – there are two big modern shower/toilet blocks, a launderette and a well-stocked shop. Wifi is available across the whole park priced from an hour to a season – just buy a ticket online. Guests can also pay to use the leisure facilities at the other West Dorset Leisure Holiday Park in the area, Highlands End Holiday Park which has a sauna/steam room and a heated indoor pool. And if you just can’t bring yourself to walk that 150 metres for some beach fishing, you can take it easy instead at Golden Cap’s own fishing lake.

What customers say

Great spot with sea views, coastal walks, beach & pub nearby. Clean, modern facilities, well-stocked shop, smooth check-in. Small gripes: narrow roads, uneven pitches, walk to loos.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Had an amazing time with our family beach 5 min walk lots of hiking if you like walking to see some spectacular views,
Toilets on camping field need to be cleaned more than once a day no fault of there own it's the kids of the parents who don't want to look after them and let them do what they want but you always get one lot other than that we had great time not a lot to do with kids like many camping grounds so don't forget your own games and toys

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The swimming pool at sister site. Especially thankful for Kate who worked at the pool and took interest in me teaching my son to swim. With her help he was swimming with confidence by the end of our stay and Kate was pivotal in his development with lots of encouragement and hints and tips.

Thank you Kate. You were the highlight of my boys Alex’s experience there.

I do hope you see this message

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The views, clean facilities, lovely walk/ cycle down to the beach.

Disliked Main facilities were a long walk away; seemed a bit odd them being in the middle of the static caravan park well away from the camping field. No set pitches which meant people were pitching tents where cars could drive safely around other tents and children, we were lucky in that the field wasn't full when we stayed but i can imagine it being chaotic in the height of peak dates.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The toilet facilities. They were well maintained.
The laundry facilities were excellent.
Proximity to the beach, though the website implies you are closer.

Disliked The location next to the sewage processing plant which is not mentioned on the website.
This campsite allows larger groups of people. Some other campers (not all) using this site were not respectful regarding pitching distances nor of the facilities.

There are only 3 showers on the toilet block which means much queuing.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Next to the sea, lovely walks from the site. Well stocked spar shop and pub/restaurant 5 mins walk from pitch. Toilet block next to pitches look fairly new and modern. Were very clean and had to use combination lock to get in, so secure. Used laundry room, so easy to use and can tap card or download app to pay. Could see and hear the sea from our campervan. Had a curry van visit when we were there, we didn't use but was very popular and all food was cooked to order. Very peaceful and relaxing whilst we were there.

Disliked Pitches a bit tatty, need updating?

Local attractions

Start at Stonebarrow Hill for 25 miles’ worth of walking trails around Golden Cap, making sure to pause after you puff uphill for the views across Lyme Bay to Dartmoor. There’s a National Trust information point, shops and toilets in an old radar station on the hill to make a pitstop at before taking the trail through Langdon Hill Wood, taking the Smugglers’ Trail, or clambering cliffwards to see the ancient Thorncombe Beacon and views to Bridport and Chesil Beach, one of the biggest shingle stretches in the country. A walk east from the beacon will take you to the seaside village and coastal views of Eype, or you can wander west to the beach at Charmouth for more fossil hunting. Other recommended day trips from Golden Cap are Lyme Regis with crazy golf on top of the promenade, the fishing village of Beer which can be combined with a trip to Seaton or Sidmouth, and the miles of sandy beach at West Bay with boat trips. If you have little animal enthusiasts along on your trip, take them to hand-feed the 600 swans at Abbotsbury Swannery, or to get nautical at Weymouth Sea Life Park. For more grownup west Dorset attractions try Forde Abbey, Sherborne Castle or the Haynes Motor Museum… the kids might not mind these too much if you then take them to Dorchester’s award-winning Dinosaur Museum.
