  • A 150-metre stroll from a beach for sea angling and fossil hunting
  • Fishing lake, play area and shop on site
Want to feel on top of the world? Travel down to Dorset and Golden Cap, the highest point on the south coast of England and part of a 2000-acre National Trust estate. Golden Cap Holiday Park is the most cap-tastic place to take all this in, as it’s surrounded by peaceful Dorset countryside and part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. And, as should be expected in Dorset, it’s right next to the water – in the seaside village of Seatown and 150 metres from a shingle beach known for its sea angling and fossil hunting. Facilities at the park are excellent – there are two big modern shower/toilet blocks, a launderette and a well-stocked shop. Wifi is available across the whole park priced from an hour to a season – just buy a ticket online. Guests can also pay to use the leisure facilities at the other West Dorset Leisure Holiday Park in the area, Highlands End Holiday Park which has a sauna/steam room and a heated indoor pool. And if you just can’t bring yourself to walk that 150 metres for some beach fishing, you can take it easy instead at Golden Cap’s own fishing lake.

What customers say

Great spot near the beach with awesome sea views! Facilities are neat, especially the showers and laundry. Easy online check-in and friendly staff get a nod. Some found pitches a bit sloped, and facilities a bit of a trek, with occasional noise from others.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Location to beach was great and a pub nearby

Disliked No showers in the field only toilets, and during busy holiday weekends are not enough as people tend to go in there to clean teeth or change, also not cleaned enough. If you camp on the left hand side as you enter the field you are closest to the showers (near statics) these are great but only 3 in the ladies so alway a queue also the little change rooms have no mirrors so u have to use the mirrors by the sink.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Reviewing as a camper only.
Beautiful location with bar/restaurant on water front.
Great for walkers.

Disliked Road to holiday park is single lane with passing places. This road cannot cope with the traffic and is subsequently difficult to navigate.
Whole of campsite is on a hill which makes sleeping difficult.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Cleanliness
Location

Disliked Not enough toilets as always waiting.... but my body may be on the same timing as everyone else. Horrible man (not from site) who told us to move our tent as we weren't 6 Metres away.... Luckily a lovely couple of families from Germany with some noisy kids came in and pitched right by him...I love Karma...We also had to endure an illegal rave on the Friday but I think we were more annoyed we weren't invited 😀

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great stay facilities very clean and plenty of them and we love the area so it’s perfect for us! Great location close to Charmouth and West Bay which are our favourite places to visit.

Disliked We stayed quite close to the sewage farm and it was smelly at times so if we stayed again we would pitch up further away.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked De wasmachine en het uitzicht buiten de camping op de baai.

Disliked Er waren te weinig WC en douches. We moesten wachten. Ook zijn de plaatsen schuin en was het veld weinig sfeervol. De douches waren niet warm.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Loved the location, the location to the beach, direct access to Lyme Regis and Bridport which was immense. P.s I'll highlight the clock inn at the top of Duck Street as the food is amazing, the staff are exceptional and you feel like at home.

Disliked Big Berries camping is tough as literally on a hill and if the flat pitches which are small are gone. You'll struggle. If you are injured as I was or even disabled I'd give this field a miss. Potholes everywhere. P.s the illegal rave was ridiculous

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Good location with a short walk to seatown where a great pub and beautiful stony beach awaits. Short drive to Westbay. Friendly atmosphere and large pitches. Clean toilets close by, well stocked shop and friendly helpful staff.

Disliked It’s a bit of a pain walking to the shower and washing up block with small children we found that to be not to ideal. It’s windy as you’re on a hill and sloping pitches mainly.

Local attractions

Start at Stonebarrow Hill for 25 miles’ worth of walking trails around Golden Cap, making sure to pause after you puff uphill for the views across Lyme Bay to Dartmoor. There’s a National Trust information point, shops and toilets in an old radar station on the hill to make a pitstop at before taking the trail through Langdon Hill Wood, taking the Smugglers’ Trail, or clambering cliffwards to see the ancient Thorncombe Beacon and views to Bridport and Chesil Beach, one of the biggest shingle stretches in the country. A walk east from the beacon will take you to the seaside village and coastal views of Eype, or you can wander west to the beach at Charmouth for more fossil hunting. Other recommended day trips from Golden Cap are Lyme Regis with crazy golf on top of the promenade, the fishing village of Beer which can be combined with a trip to Seaton or Sidmouth, and the miles of sandy beach at West Bay with boat trips. If you have little animal enthusiasts along on your trip, take them to hand-feed the 600 swans at Abbotsbury Swannery, or to get nautical at Weymouth Sea Life Park. For more grownup west Dorset attractions try Forde Abbey, Sherborne Castle or the Haynes Motor Museum… the kids might not mind these too much if you then take them to Dorchester’s award-winning Dinosaur Museum.
