  • Grass pitches at a north Devon campsite facing the Atlantic coast
  • Five minutes’ drive to Hartland Abbey, and 15 minutes to Clovelly
  • Information point and direct access to South West Coast Path
The folk who own Stoke Barton Farm Campsite know a thing or two about the area – they’ve farmed around this part of north Devon for generations and specifically at Stoke Barton for over 40 years. It’s also fair to say they know a thing or two about splendid family-friendly breaks – that’s what you get when you set down on these grass pitches facing the Atlantic coast. There are coastal views across the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to kickstart the holiday vibes. The information shed – which is kitted out with kettles, microwaves, a freezer and power points – is a handy source of useful knowledge as well as tending to your tummy, and only down the lane by the farmhouse. For all your food and drink needs you can go to the pubs at Hartland – five minutes’ drive or a half-hour walk. A local shop is also nearby and deliveries can be arranged. Since Stoke Barton Farm Campsite is on a working livestock and arable farm, you’ll see sheep grazing in fields neighbouring the pitches. There are 12 acres across the site in total, including plenty of space between pitches so you’ll never feel crowded. It’s wonderfully family friendly too, with facilities that include a football pitch where kids can let off steam, charging for devices (that’ll keep the teens quiet) and a launderette to keep everyone looking their best.

Liked Costal path walkers paradise - lovely farm campsite set up with a dedicated common room for hiker (and campers) to meet up and enjoy a coffee and Tea. Also laundry and shop facilities to prepare yourself for the daunting Hartland to Bude section of the SWCP

Liked The warm welcome on arrival and the cleanliness of the facilities and the general "bonhomie" with fellow campers and staff. In our opinion Stoke Barton campsite is unique and special.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Great view, clean facilities, spacious space, easy to walk to Speke waterfall and coastal path. on site shop is well stock up (milk, bread, cheese, bacon, burger, etc). short but hilly walk to the pub!honestly it is one of the best campsite and will definitely come again!

Disliked Not the campsite itself, but unfortunately a few campers. Some people just don't understand basic camping etiquette.
While we were there, one group left their unfinished washing-up in two of the three sinks because they went to watch the sunset. The dirty dishes were left there for more than 10/15 minutes, and other people had to move their things to use the sinks.
Then there was a dog next to us that was off lead and wandering around freely most of the time. At one point, it ran towards our dog, who was eating and on a long tether. Luckily, nothing happened other than the dogs barking at each other because I stood up, ready to stop the other dog. I don't mind dogs being off lead around their own camping area or in a play area, as long as the owner is paying attention, but she wasn't.
There was also a group of ladies who decided to pitch their tent very close to us, despite the allocated pitches being very spacious . After setting up their tent, they parked one of their cars right next to our van, almost as if it were a parking space. We ended up having to move our van. Anyway, we still had a good time and will definitely come back.

From the manager: Thanks for coming to stay at the campsite. We are strict about dogs being on leads and will always enforce this whenever we see dogs off lead. Unfortunately, not all people will respect this. I am sorry that you had some negative experiences - we will always try to resolve anything that we are made aware of but we do hope you will come again!

Local attractions

How to begin your break in north Devon? With a long jaunt across the South West Coast Path, which can be accessed directly from site? More clifftop walks around Hartland Quay (five minutes’ drive), followed by a tasty pub meal? Clovelly (15 minutes) is another splendid seaside scene with cobbled slopes and a row of small fishing boats. To investigate more of the coast, you might want to check out Bude (half an hour) and its many surfing beaches. There’s more surf at Welcombe Mouth (20 minutes), along with a waterfall to seek out. Speke’s Mill Mouth Waterfall (five minutes) is another waterfall closer by, and with a nearly 50-metre drop, it’s bound to be pretty impressive. What of some particularly peaceful places, then? St Nectan Church (five minutes’ walk), named the Cathedral of North Devon, is one. Hartland Abbey (five minutes’ drive) or The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden (20 minutes) are others. To get to wildlife-packed Lundy Island, visit Bideford Quay (half an hour). If it’s kid-friendly attractions and farm animals you’re after, The BIG Sheep (25 minutes) has all of that.
