Little Orchard Camping field is set on two acres of farmland in the South Devon countryside. It’s a peaceful spot with views over fields where you can watch cows grazing and – if you’re lucky – you may get to spot the white tails of roe deer skipping through the fields. From the site, you can access countryside walks, and on hot sunny days, you can cool down with a wild swimming dip in the River Avon, five minutes' drive away. Within half an hour’s drive, you can be in Dartmoor National Park, with lots of hiking trails to follow and maybe some Dartmoor ponies to stroke. If it’s chilling on the beach that you’re after, you’ve a choice of South Sands, Blackpool Sands, Bantham and South Milton Sands, all within a 20-minute drive and all top spots for watersports from surfing to paddleboarding. Bring a firepit for cosy Devonshire evenings – nets of firewood are for sale on request. A two-minute walk up the country lane takes you to the farm’s egg shed, which has fresh duck and chicken eggs and scrummy homemade cakes for sale. There are also plenty of local farm shops tucked away in country lanes, selling the best of Devon produce for you to barbecue. Two country pubs are within five-minutes walking distance, while the towns of Totnes, Kingsbridge (both 15 minutes’ drive) and Dartmouth (20 minutes) have some cracking pubs, cafés and restaurants if you’d rather have a complete break from cooking. Back-to-basics amenities on site include portable toilets, and a water station fed from the farm’s spring for all your dishwashing needs (please note this is not drinking water, so bring a supply with you).
