What customers say

Peaceful vibe, friendly owners, and good value, well-equipped digs. Lodges and bunkhouses get a thumbs-up for cosiness. Excellent rural location, though watch out for steep steps and fridge hum. A few more towel hooks would be nice. Highly recommend for a chill break!

Kingfisher lodge

Liked Loved our stay in the kingfisher cabin. It was very well equipped.
There is a playing feild across the road.
Site owner was lovely and came and introduced himself.
Coop is in walking distance and a lovely garden centre just up the road which does nice food/coffee etc.

Disliked Bathroom had a slight damp smell. But the bathroom was fine with a nice shower which ran very well. Hot water all the time.
Not much to dislike. Everything you could need for a nice break away.

Liked The customer service. (The bed was fixed the morning after reported.)
The location/setting, amazing to see so may stars at night.
The reasonable price.
Having 2 chalets meant whole family could stay in one place.

Disliked The bed breaking in one chalet the first night so my daughter & partner had to sleep on the floor on the first night as it was too late to fix. The sewage smell in the same chalet so my daughter wouldn't stay in it for the 2nd night unfortunately.

From the manager: Thanks for the feed back. Curious why they felt they had to sleep on the floor when there is set of bunk beds in the same space. All has been rectified.

Liked Everything, always love staying here, great hospitality and owners Dave and Shaun. Always makes us all feel welcome, great views, a few minutes walk to the local shop, a few miles to either Crediton or Oakhampton. Not far to the beautiful Devon/dorset coastlines.

Local attractions

Dartmoor National Park’s got to be top of the list if you’re heading here to hike: a 15-minute drive gets you over there to wander around the wide open spaces, with wildlife, villages and views galore to spot along the way (and cream teas to sustain you too…) There are three swimming pools within a 15-minute drive too, should you fancy a dip on your way back to base. The natural sights are splendid indeed but they’ve got plenty of rivals among the local architecture too: smart Castle Drogo and the medieval ruins of Okehampton Castle are both about 25 minutes’ drive away and worth a wander, or it’s a 35-minute drive to Exeter to see its ornate cathedral. For more of a glimpse into the inner workings of traditional life, pay a visit to the old forge Finch Foundry or the Museum of Dartmoor Life; both are about 15 minutes’ drive away. Dartmoor and Exmoor zoos are both about an hour away if you’d rather spend a bit of time in the company of a collection of animals.
