  • Family park a short stroll from the seaside town of Dawlish Warren
  • Daily entertainment, adventure play and restaurant facilities
  • Indoor and outdoor pool complexes, kids' club and dining area
You’ll strike gold with a family holiday or short break at Golden Sands Holiday Park, on the doorstep of some of Devon’s top scenic spots and family attractions, a short stroll away from famed Dawlish Warren beach and nature reserve… and with a goldmine of first-class facilities and entertainment on offer. As it’s a Park Holidays site, Golden Sands is aimed towards making breaks as hassle-free as possible: the excellent amenities in this lush countryside location include heated indoor and outdoor pool complexes, a kids’ club, amusements and the Adventure Land Play Area. There's also a dining area and takeaway, a mini mart shop to pick up essentials, and a launderette and washing-up area for whoever you can bribe to do the chores. The clubhouse has free wifi and Sky Sports; guests can also use the facilities at the other Park Holidays site nearby, Dawlish Sands, where there’s an entertainment venue with live acts in the evening as well as an indoor and outdoor pool. Dawlish Warren and the area around Golden Sands are justifiably popular with families: the beach is safe and sandy, backed with pretty dunes, and packed with good old-fashioned seaside attractions: think fairground attractions, crazy golf and ice cream among more… and then there’s the nature reserve, and the spectacular short train journey along the seawall to Teignmouth (take the line in the other direction and it will bring you to the city lights of Exeter).

What customers say

Pods are praised for being clean & comfy, with a great beach location. Friendly staff, but toilet blocks need attention. WiFi's pricey. Pool's popular but busy, booking system criticised.

Camping pod

Liked The location was fantastic we stayed in the pod which is located near the park and a place to walk the dog. Good bar selection

Disliked The swimming pool is too cold for a toddler one of the nights the food that we ordered took over two hours to come and forgot the kids food. It ended up being 10:30 pm until the kids ate. The WiFi is a fortune

Camping pod

Liked We stayed in a pod was very comfortable had everything we needed. We brought bedding but was already in there bonus!
We arrived abit early and our pod was ready so got straight in. Nice and close to beach easy walk there. Little shop on site which is handy too. Sainsbury’s very close for shopping. Reception staff very friendly and gave us a call half way through our holiday to check we were ok which was nice

Disliked The entertainment for us wasn’t what we expected the bingo went on for a while and it’s spread across a few parks so chances of winning is low. Went on for a while so we didn’t stay. The pool system is a pain but can understand why in summer season it’s busy. Would be nice though to be able to come and go to the pool as the kids went in the morning and wanted to go in the afternoon but couldn’t.

Camping pod

Liked Reception staff were friendly and helpful.

Disliked WiFi is not free, and actually expensive, £8 a day. I feel like they choke the 4G as well to force the sale of WiFi packages.
It would be great if the pods could include some essentials like a kettle and mugs. I also didn't have the promised 'welcome pack'. Pods have very limited privacy, they all feel a little looked over.

Camping pod

Liked The camping pods were great, good size, clean and warm and well designed. Welcome pack with washing up liquid and sponge was a nice touch. There was a mirror, broom and dustpan and brush also in the pod. Easy parking and nice grassy space at the front. Some had benches outside too. Quiet and well kept area.
Also next to the park which was a bonus for us as the kids could go and play.

Disliked The toilet block wasn’t great. Many of the toilets didn’t flush well, door locks didn’t work to well either, toilet roll holders were broken. It was generally clean but could really do with some improvements or more frequent checking by staff.

Local attractions

Dawlish Warren is a safe and clean family beach with all the old-fashioned activities kids will clamour for: Punch and Judy, amusements and crazy golf among the decorative dunes, as well as chuffing along the sea wall on the train journey to Teignmouth or wandering among the wildfowl and wading birds at the Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve. Slightly further afield there are coastal resorts like Paignton and Torquay, cantering on horseback in Dartmoor National Park and exploring the gardens and history of Devon: the secret gardens of Powderham Castle will keep the kids enthralled, and they’ll also have a swashbuckling time at the Golden Hind, the replica of Sir Francis Drake’s 16th-century ship moored at Brixham. Or you could just pack everyone up and head out of Golden Sands to see where your feet or pedals take you: this area of the country is renowned for its walking and cycling routes, whether you’re cruising along the coastline, foraging through forests, ambling through the area’s villages or making your way around spectacular Dartmoor.
