General

  • Peaceful site near Combe Martin, with views over the coast
  • A 15-minute drive from Ilfracombe and Exmoor Zoo
  • On the edge of Exmoor National Park and a mile from the coast path

Silver View Camping is a peaceful site in an enviable Devon location on the edge of Exmoor National Park and around five minutes’ drive from the beach at Combe Martin.

Pitches here have fine views over the valley and out to sea; on a clear day you’ll get glimpses of Lundy island (which you can also visit on boat trips from Ilfracombe, 15 minutes’ drive away). The setup is all very eco-friendly and relaxed, rather like wild camping but with the added luxury of access to drinking water, compost toilets, a couple of showers and a rubbish/recycling point.

Campfires are generally allowed too for that true outdoor evening experience – the team here just ask that you consult with them first if planning a campfire or firepit, and pay attention to safety (raising your firepit off the ground and making sure all the flames are fully extinguished before you leave it).

This is a handily located site for all sorts of days out – it’s about a mile from here to the South West Coast Path, and only a tiny bit further to kayak and paddleboard hire at Combe Martin beach (truly the way to explore, say the owners – and you might meet seals or dolphins along the way). There are plenty more walks and activities to be had around Exmoor National Park too, and plenty of ways to keep the kids amused with trips to Exmoor Zoo and the Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park.

Lovely view! Not quite like the one in the picture (that must have been taken from a 100-foot selfie stick!) The facilities were kept clean and the water in the shower was warm enough. It has a very relaxed vibe and the people that run it are really friendly.

    Disliked:

You have to open and close the gate every time you enter and leave the field which was O.K. for us as there were two of us but I would imagine it would be a bit of a pain if you're on your own or a single parent. It did make me feel like my kids were more secure than if there were an open exit, so this could also be a plus!

We loved this campsite. Great location for exploring North Devon. It was peaceful and spacious. Beautiful views of sea, countryside, horses from the site. We watched the sun go down and the moon rise with a campfire every night. The facilities are basic but tidy and sufficient.
The showers were hot, composting toilets clean. Hot water to wash up with.
Our pitch was level, some would be on a slight slope if the site was full. The owner Jack checked everyone was ok daily and was cheerful and helpful. If you are happy to really get away from it all this is the campsite for you. We would stay again.

The valley setting, sea views and a beautiful landscape. Lots of space. Hot showers and impressive compost loos which, amazingly, did not smell and were kept clean.
I’d like to thank Jack for reserving a pitch next to our family, with his tractor (to the delight of our grandson).
