Ever dreamed of waking up to a sea view? Or perhaps stoking the flames of a campfire as the sun sets over the waves? Sign up for a bit of both with a stay at Sandparks Campsite, a friendly, informal site with pitches overlooking Widemouth beach in north Cornwall. Those in the know will no doubt recognise this name as being one of Cornwall’s top surfing beaches – and as well as viewing it from your pitch you can also get down there to hit the waves whenever you fancy from here. And it’s not just the beach that’s handy: a pub (with top-notch Cornish ales), a restaurant (with fresh seafood) and a shop (with local meat and fish for your barbecue) are all a mere 50 metres away from the site. There’s also surfing kit hire available for those who don’t have their own board. If you fancy exploring a little further afield, it’s worth noting that this is a fine spot for getting out to walk on the South West Coast Path or to spend some time roaming around north Cornwall. Bude is about a 40-minute walk or five-minute drive away and you can get to the likes of Boscastle, Tintagel and Bodmin Moor within half an hour’s drive. Life on site is pretty simple, but guests have access to a waste disposal point, a washing-up area and a modern toilet and shower block. Barbecues and campfires are both permitted at this laidback spot, as are visiting dogs.

Liked The location is great, sea view, dog friendly, clean toilets and showers, hot showers, plenty of space, nice staff and free WiFi.

Disliked Just a small point. The shower cubicles could do with another set of hooks and maybe a seat when drying feet and putting socks and shoes on, not everyone is able to balance when standing to doing this.

Disliked There is quiet time from 10pm... we were just dosing off and a group decided to start a rowdy game of late night football!!

Liked Great campsite with excellent clean facilities. Amazing view of the sea from the whole campsite and you can walk to the beach in about 2 minutes! There is a breakfast van on site that's open from 7 (ISH) to 9:30am every day.
Pub on site is lovely, there is a bar area (dog friendly) and restaurant (dog friendly section) with separate menus and the food is delicious. Beach Bar over the road is very cute too but we only had a drink, menu looks good. There is also a small farm shop/fish monger (very small) next to it.

Great location to get to Bude, less than a 10 minute drive but you can also walk along the coast or catch the bus.

Owners/wardens were friendly and helpful.

Disliked No dislikes, just a couple things worth thinking about. The site is very open to the sea so when it's windy, it's really windy! Just take note of the weather report and take extra ropes etc if the wind is above 25km/hour!

Also the noise curfew isn't enforced, didn't bother us but worth noting if you have a young family.

Liked Warm welcome on arrival from the lady in reception who was very helpful and informative. The site was easy to find and in fantastic location close to beach with great sea views. Spacious electric pitch, with water points close by, and the site had a very relaxed feel to it. Being on a slope you definitely need your levelling blocks for your campervan but this wasn't a major issue and some pitches are flatter than others. Site is dog friendly with direct access to countryside walks through gate at top of site. 24/7 dog friendly beach at Black Rock a short walk away and main beach was dog friendly before 10am and after 6pm. The toilet/shower block and the dishwashing area were always spotlessly clean, plus the showers were lovely and warm. Free WiFi was a bonus.

Local attractions

Widemouth isn’t the only bit of coastal Cornwall that’s easy to visit from here. Sandparks is also in a handy spot for outings to Bude (five minutes’ drive), where another top surf beach beckons, along with surf lessons and a sea pool for more gentle swims. Elsewhere along the coast, you could stop by in Boscastle (20 minutes) for a stroll around a traditional fishing village, or explore Arthurian legends at Tintagel Castle (half an hour) – perhaps also stopping by at the mystical St Nectan’s Glen (25 minutes) to see if you can spot pixies as you walk to the waterfall. Turning inland for a while, there are some great walks to be done on Bodmin Moor (25 minutes), or you could delve into the area’s history at Davidstow Airfield and Cornwall at War Museum (15 minutes). Other options for entertaining the kids might be the animals at New Mills Farm Park, the puzzle-themed attractions at Hidden Valley or the characterful residents of The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden – all are about a half-hour drive away.
