  • Eco-friendly North Cornwall site on a 32-acre working farm
  • Two miles from the beach and the South West Coast Path
  • In a National Landscape between Bude and Tintagel
Trelay Campsite is a small-scale rural site set on the grounds of a 32-acre working farm in St Gennys, Cornwall. Set in a National Landscape, it's roughly two miles from the spectacular coastal scenery of Crackington Haven. With so little light pollution in the area, the night sky (when conditions are clear) should be truly stunning too. The local area leaves guests quite spoilt for beach days, with everything from gold sand and stunning folded rock formations to excellent surfing (including local equipment hire or surf lessons) and rockpools to clamber over. Bude is around a 15-minute drive away, with its wide range of beaches, shops and restaurants; there's also a bus stop with a Bude connection around half a mile away from the site. Southwards, it's around 20 minutes' drive to Boscastle, a pretty harbour village, and 25 minutes to Tintagel Castle, once home to the legendary King Arthur. At St Nectan's Waterfall, stroll through the lush forest to a waterfall and tearoom. Nearby are the equally-as-mysterious labyrinth rock carvings at Rocky Valley dating from the early Bronze Age, or keep walking to the coastal path for sea views and another (smaller) waterfall. Pluses of staying at Trelay Campsite include this spot’s well-kept amenities like toilets, showers and a shared food prep space, plus a fridge and freezer, microwave and kettle. There are also charging points for phones, tablets, shavers and other small devices, and free firepits, with bundles of firewood, kindling and firelighters available for an additional fee (please add them as an extra to your booking, as they're only available with advance notice). Dogs are allowed at this friendly farm site, but you'll need to keep them on leads at all times to avoid worrying the livestock. If you need to stock up on food, there's a post office and basic food shop about three-quarters of a mile down the road. The closest pub is by the A39, under a mile from the farm gates.

What customers say

Lovely, peaceful spot, spacious sites, nature feel. Basic getaway near beaches. Camp kitchen with fridge/microwave, fires allowed. Most found loos clean, but some noted hot water/drying issues at busy times. Noise and patchy Wi-Fi also mentioned. New sinks planned, on-demand hot water being explored.

Bell tent

Liked Calm, quiet, lots of space. Well organised as an add on to the farm and community that are already there. Smoothly run with hot showers, and a little common room/kitchen with fridge-freezer, sink, kettle and washing machine with plenty of charging ports for phones but all powered by solar panels on the barn roof so eco-friendly and very low key.

Disliked Nothin really. The swings had to be taken down when we were there which was a shame for the kids, but they were worn out and getting too rickety. A positive really as we didn’t see much of the staff/owners other than this. They were there but not intrusive. Clearly on the ball about safety and the place was clean and tidy, bins emptied etc but otherwise we saw no management which was nice to be left to it. Number available to ring of we needed anything.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very quiet and relaxing site. Children had space to play and make friends, but the pitches themselves felt quite private. Particularly appreciated the utility room with mod cons.
Had a lovely encounter with the camp hedgehog.
Would definitely recommend!

Disliked No real view. No WiFi.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave your kind review. We do market ourselves as an Eco campsite and are focused more on a wild camping experience (with the luxury of flushing loos and hot showers!). Whilst we don't have plans to add electricity to our pitches, you probably noticed that we do offer charging points to charge small devices and battery packs, along with a fridge and freezer for campers to use :-)
We don't currently offer WiFi but are hoping to have that up and running in some areas for next season if possible. We do take all feedback on board!

Liked Loved the pitch and area

Disliked The bathroom facilities, no where to dry as everything is wet when you shower. Needs an extra sink for washing hands and tooth brushing, there was a line waiting to use the sink.

From the manager: Hi Odette, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We have taken your feedback on board and plan to add additional hand wash basins for next season. I'm so glad to hear you loved the site and the pitch, we hope to see you again.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely campsite, really relaxed atmosphere. We've had a great stay and the kids have loved every minute. The kitchen facilities (kettle/microwave/fridge) are a lovely touch and make life that bit easier. Toilets were always spotless and the owners were always around if there had been any issues. Location is fab for exploring the beautiful beaches nearby. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a back to nature, back to basics escape.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The campsite was a small set up and we were part of a field viewing row of 3 pitches. Although it was very windy and exposed the tent stayed strong throughout. 2 friendly and approachable staff members came for a chat and to check everything was well. Big bonus for us was that campfires were allowed and firepits provided for us.
Facilities included freezer for freezer blocks, warm solar showers and a kettle and microwave (these came in as handy time savers as boiling water on our single gas camping stove can be time consuming!).

Overall a great site.

From the manager: Thanks Anne for the lovely review - so glad you enjoyed your stay and the tent stayed strong in the gusts! Our main area is much more sheltered but as you probably noticed, we were fully booked. Best of luck to your husband and friend with completing the coastal path - what a feat! We hope to see you again.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked I stayed one night at Trelay and was very pleased with this stop . The pitch was clearly set out amidst a rewilded field with picnic tables and play area for children , and the day room with kettle and fridges help without electric hookup. The showers and washroom were great , clean and plenty of them, and nice to to know it is solar! I was with other campers and residents who were friendly and I liked the feel and location very near great beach Crackington Haven with its pub where I swam and had a meal. There was good info and signs for independent finding ones way. I stayed only one night as I was headed further on into Cornwall but would have been happy to stay on! It had really nice feel!
