  • Friendly hidden park in a Cornish wildlife haven
  • Two miles from St Ives and five from Penzance
  • Barbecues permitted on site; pub 15 minutes' walk away
Hidden in the Cornish countryside, with some of the most spectacular sunsets you'll see anywhere, but set only two miles from the buzz of St Ives… come and feel lost at Cornwall's corkingly scenic and very friendly Lower Penderleath Farm. The whole setup is in a serene Cornish countryside, filled with wildlife and with splendid views all around: the coastline is only a few miles away and the farm is an easy base from which to explore the western edge of the Penwith Peninsula. The nearest beaches from Lower Penderleath Farm are between two and three miles away and lively St Ives between five and eight minutes' drive – or walk it in about an hour if you feel so inclined (plenty of taxis are available in town to zip you and your tired feet back to base). On site, settle down for the sunset and bask in the warmth of whichever fire bowl or barbecue you'd like to turn up with (bring along your own wood or charcoal too, but remember that open fires aren't allowed). A pub serving food is about 15 minutes' walk away, via a footpath across the fields, if you'd rather source a cosy indoor meal. The decent and clean facilities on site include a toilet and shower block with hot water and washing-up areas and an area for washing off and hanging up wetsuits and surfboards.

What customers say

Quiet, basic spot with gorgeous views & peaceful vibes, popular with regulars. Guests rave about hot showers, clean loos, and Russell's friendly help. Spacious pitches, easy St Ives access. Some mention wind, weak phone signal, and a tight lane, but phone charging's sorted.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked What a great remote place, away from all the business but not too far. No light pollution - we had perfect views of the night sky and watched the meteor shower. We found a nice walk ( mostly off road - public footpaths ) to St Ives , ending up on a beautiful beach. Russell ( the campsite owner) gave us great ideas for cycling routes to St Michael’s Mount and Penzance, all off main roads - very scenic. Campsite is basic ( what it should be) but had all facilities and was kept clean. Spoiled for pitch up choices, but don’t be like us and forget chocks if you are sleeping in a van. But despite that, we found perfect spot that made it all good. It was so peaceful. We are hoping to come again as we really enjoyed our stay and there is still more we want to see and this campsite was in perfect location for our plans. We have not used the WiFi so cannot comment but there is Wifi available .

Disliked Take your time on the short road to site , as for us it felt tight ( we were trying to do the speed limit , hand breaking on the corners 🤭). Just be sensible .

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked If you like the kind of camping that involves parking in a field than this is for you. I absolutely love places like this, it's raw and proper. It's a beautiful location with lovely views.
I was only there for two nights and barely used the facilities but they are there, some might call them basic but that's all you need and I'm happy with that.

Liked This campsite is exactly how camping should be! A farm site that's not crowded, relaxed and well managed with plenty of toilets and washing facilities and hot showers. Russell is a great host and I loved the handwritten signs.
You can freeze your ice blocks and even charge your phone for £1.
It's in a beautiful valley with buzzards and curlews flying overhead and not far from St Ives and Zennor. We did lots of walking on the coast path and found great beaches at Veor Cove near Zennor (v steep walk down), and Portheras Cove near Morvah.

Disliked Having to leave.

Liked Peaceful location. Views. Plenty of space. Russel the owner🙂

Disliked WiFi struggles although you can pay £5 didn’t work but we were in the furthest field from the main building but still had 5G. No big deal for us though.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked If you’re looking for a peaceful campsite away from the hustle and bustle, this is the perfect place. It’s a great spot to truly relax and unwind.

Wi-Fi is available for an additional fee — for 5 nights, I paid £5. I’d recommend pitching your tent closer to reception, as the Wi-Fi works best there.

There is access to drinking water, as well as tubs where you can rinse your wetsuit. The toilets and showers are clean, and hot water is available all the time.

Overall, a lovely, quiet place where you can really enjoy some time away from everything. I would definitely recommend it.

Route directions

Please note, if you allow the satnav or TomTom to direct you in, it will probably take you via Crowlas and Nancleadra. If you enter the lane from this direction, you will find the lane a lot narrower (still doable, but less comfortably). Entering the lane from the Towednack Crossroads side is the best way to approach (as per the directions below) as the lane from this direction has been widened to take large lorries On the A30 from Exeter, once you reach the Hayle bypass, take the third exit at the roundabout to St Ives (A3074). At the second mini roundabout, about 500m from the A30, turn left onto Mill Hill and follow the road until you reach the T-junction with the B3311. Turn left and 200m after the junction turn right and veer left down the small lane. The site is about 0.75 miles further down the road on the right.

Local attractions

Hit the beaches, restaurants, galleries, craft shops and cafés of arty St Ives as a first stop, then sneak over to the pirate HQ of Penzance five miles from the farm, also a top spot for sailing. If you're up (down?) for diving or snorkelling, Lamorna Cove is the location, about five miles south of Penzance, and Sennen Cove is topping for surfing alongside St Ives and Hayle. Both St Ives and Penzance have shoals' worth of sea fishing available from chartered boats too; if you fancy freshwater fishing, golfing, climbing or horse riding there are lots of options locally. One of the most popular places in the region is the rocky island of St Michael's Mount and its medieval castle in Mount's Bay at Marazion: take a boat out to or walk across the sand in low tide. At Newlyn, take a coastal tour to also very scenic Mousehole (and did you know that the Lamorna granite of its pier is the same used to build the Thames Embankment?). More high-quality highlights in the area? Try the utterly fab (darling) Minack Theatre, or head to the north coast and the surf at Portreath, Porthtowan and Newquay.
