  • Small, cosy and family-run park a mile from Marazion
  • A short walk from St Michael's Mount
  • Free pool and spotless amenities
Sites near the coast are rather special. Particularly when they’re Cornish, less than a mile from a beauteous bay, and with a heated indoor pool in which guests can wallow wrinkedly all the winter day if the mood so takes them – for free… Drive down a country lane surrounded by fields to reach small, family-run and exceedingly esteemed Wheal Rodney Holiday Park, a mile from Marazion and a short saunter to St Michael's Mount. It’s easy to drive to the other attractions of west Cornwall from here (the Lizard Peninsula, Land’s End and Penzance are all close by), but the kids won’t have time to say they’re bored before you’re at arty St Ives and the north coast, Helston and Flambards, or the Isles of Scilly from Penzance or Land's End. The majority of Wheal Rodney’s guests are families, but their welcome extends to all, dogs included, who’ll probably wag their tails at the countryside walks straight from the site and the list of dog-friendly Cornish beaches available in reception. The spotless facilities building has the site reception, shower blocks with free hot water, launderette and the aforementioned free swimming pool, open from 9am daily. Ice pack freezing and phone and gadget charging are also gratis for guests. Other facilities on site include an Elsan point, recycling and a shop for essentials: if your holiday equals not having to cook, the Fire Engine Inn with a temptingly tasty menu and beer garden is under 10 minutes’ stroll from Wheal Rodney. As with the site, dogs and children are whealy welcome too...

Electric grass tent pitch (small)

Liked Allowed us to book in 30 mins early. Pitched our tent unknowingly over lapping the pitch adjacent, stopped taking bookings on this adjacent pitch losing revenue the whole 5 days we were there so we didn't have to repitch our tent. ( amazing gesture ) We look forward to staying at this site in the future. All the very best, from ozzy and rhonda

From the manager: Ozzy and Rhonda, thank you so much! We pride ourselves in providing excellent service and doing all that we can to help our guests. On occasions pitches are ready before 1pm, so when it’s possible, we are able to welcome campers before the check-in time. Our lovely maintenance man John, was happy to find a solution so that you did not have to move your tent. We are thrilled to hear that you had a great experience at the park, and hope to welcome you back soon. Have a great summer!

No a very good site for a larger motorhome.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Nothing

Disliked Site too small for a 7.5 metre motorhome, plus additional vehicle. Tiny pitches, too cramped and no room to feel comfortable with awning out and potentially a wind break.
The photos online are misleading. Access is an issue as the motorhome grounded upon driving through the entrance to the site. There is no room to park when checking in.
We asked for a refund or at least a part refund, but we were declined.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are disappointed that you liked nothing about our site especially as you spent a grand total of 7minutes here. In the 20 plus years our family has run this park we have never before experienced anyone "grounding their motor home, upon driving through the entrance". Motor homes of your size and larger, regularly stay here with no problems at all.

We are very proud of our site and our high scores on Pitch Up. Here is an extract from our listing : "Drive down a country lane surrounded by fields to reach small, family-run and exceedingly esteemed Wheal Rodney Holiday Park, a mile from Marazion and a short saunter to St Michael's Mount".

We are very clear that we are a small family run business in the middle of the countryside. The majority of photographs on Pitch Up are uploaded by our guests who enjoy the peace and tranquilly our site, and return year after year

You were quite rude to one of our members of staff, who offered to move you to a larger pitch but without looking around our site you declined, stating that you didn't like the site. You then demanded a refund. Our staff member correctly advised you to contact your booking agent.

All of our pitches are different sizes, you were allocated a pitch using the measurements you gave on pitch up. Your pitch was 2metres longer than your vehicle and and 7 meters wider than your vehicle. There is ample parking in our carpark or one of our other 3 parking areas for you to park your car. There is also an option on Pitch Up to book a much larger pitch which costs an extra £10 per night, You did not choose this option. Pitch 1 for example is approximately 18m x 22m.

We hope you found happiness in a large holiday park more suited to you taste, and had a lovely holiday!

# 1 electric grass touring pitch (large)

Liked Peaceful location with friendly staff. Close enough to Marazion to walk with a choice of two routes. Well stocked shop if needed and good facilities.

Disliked Backing onto the pitch is not for a novice. Maybe a little less parking in that area would help.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to post a review, S & C. We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay and found the facilities clean, and the staff friendly. Pitch 1 is a favoured plot. It is approximately 18x22m, near the entrance and includes 2 electric hook-up points and parking for two cars too. We really hope we get the chance to host you again.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind words, Jo. Both the housekeeping team and reception staff frequently get mentioned in online reviews. We appreciate your acknowledgement of the maintenance men! They all work extremely hard to keep everything operational, as well as taking care of the beautiful planters and hanging baskets, pitches and park ground. We hope to see you both (and your lovely dog) again in the future.

Electric grass tent pitch (small)

Liked The bathroom, the swimming pool, the size of the site, the shop, the pitches, the location.

Disliked I wish there was one extra toilet in the men's bathroom as sometimes there was a wait.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Stephen, thank you for staying with us! It’s pleasing to hear that you enjoyed our amazing swimming pool! We superheat our water to an enjoyable 32°C. Your comment regarding the toilet has been highlighted to the park managers, thank you. We hope to welcome you, S, and your doggie back again in the future.

Route directions

If travelling in a caravan or large motorhome, don't try to reach the site by going through the town of Marazion. Instead, go through the village of Crowlas, pass The Star Inn (on your right) and then take a left at the crossroads (signposted Rospeath). Travel for 1.5 miles along the winding country lane without turning off. Pass under the bypass bridge and then bear a sharp left around the corner. Start going up the hill to Marazion and the site is just up the road on the right-hand side.

Local attractions

There are so many top-notch beaches around west Cornwall (25 within easy reach of Wheal Rodney) that it can be hard to pick where to stretch out on the sand/rookpool/surf at first… Marazion is a bonzer beach startoff point from Wheal Rodney, as not only it is a piffling mile away, but it has two beaches: the main Town Beach and a much quieter and hidden one at Steps Beach (the latter is dog-friendly all year round). Overlooking Town Beach is the medieval castle on St Michael’s Mount, the rocky island halfway along Mount’s Bay and now managed by the National Trust. Both are within strolling distance of Wheal Rodney: sail out to the island from Mount’s Bay for a harbour tour and a gawp at the subtropical gardens, viewable when peering down from the castle battlements. Fishing villages, clandestine coves and golden sands are speckled along the Cornish coast from Wheal Rodney: take a day at each if you can (the boss will understand) for fishing in Mullion and Porthleven, surfing at Sennen Cove and Praa Sands, diving and shipwreck hunting at Falmouth’s Porthkerris Beach, or just having a gape at the celebrated scenery of the Lizard’s Kynance and Kennack Sands. When sand is dusted from toes, Marazion town centre is a gem for art galleries, antiques and jewellery: Penlee House at Penzance three miles away and Tate St Ives seven miles north are also a big draw for artistes. Both towns have several other art galleries, more beaches (of course) and the opportunity to sing very loud and tuneless sea shanties with pirates at Penzance. The St Ives Bay Line from Penzance to St Ives is one of the most scenic you’ll see anywhere in the country; for added viewsomeness, walk to Penzance from Marazion along the South West Coast Path, stopping very frequently to snap the scenery at Mount’s Bay, Mousehole and the Lizard. Thirteen miles from Wheal Rodney towards the southwest, have your photo taken at the famous signpost at Land’s End, where also cordially recommended is partaking of a Cornish cream tea at the Land’s End restaurant. And while you’re in the area, stick around into the evening for a performance at the open-air Minack Theatre, 11 miles from Wheal Rodney in the direction of Land’s End. Its season runs from May to September, but theatre fiends can take a guided tour any time of year, something that also comes cordially recommended…
