  • Relaxed family park 10 minutes' walk from Kennack Sands
  • Licensed shop, pizza takeaway, fire baskets and chimeneas on site
  • Three amenities blocks with well-kept toilets and hot showers
If your holiday checklist includes gorgeous Cornish sea views, quick access to golden beaches and so much to do for mini campers that you can fine the kids if anyone dares utter the phrase ‘I’m bored’, seasidey Chy Carne Holiday Park should tick all boxes for your break. This is a relaxed, spacious and spankingly clean site with a strong family focus, dog-friendly and close to acclaimed beaches like Kennack Sands (10 minutes' walk) as well as many of the main attractions and towns of Cornwall. Helston, Falmouth and St Austell are all within easy reach, and spectacular Kynance Cove is five minutes' drive away. The kids can go 'Aaaarrr' and clamber around the play pirate ship, get competitive at the outdoor games or kick a ball around the grassy open space, while the bigger folk can sit back and prepare the barbecue, have a campfire on one of the Chy Carne chimeneas or fire baskets, or sit back with a snack or drink from the licensed shop (opening times and stock limited out of season). There’s a pizza takeaway on site too (open during the May half term and school summer holidays only, until 9pm), so you can polish off a pepperoni if you don't feel like cooking. The first-class facilities here have plenty of hot showers (extra charge applies), toilets, washbasins and washing-up sinks (four, to be exact) so queues are unlikely even in peak season. The main amenity block is open at all times, with two more opening up to cope with extra demand in high season (May half term and school summer holidays). There’s a launderette on site too with two commercial washing machines and two driers. Chy Carne welcomes well-behaved pets.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: staff are very helpful and friendly

Disliked: 1. Frustrating experience I had with the shower facilities in the ladies' bathroom. Upon entering, I inserted a coin into the machine in one of the stalls. It took over 40 seconds for any hot water to come through. I then inserted another coin, but unfortunately, the machine did not respond — no water came out, and the coin was not returned. I proceeded to insert several more coins, but the machine remained unresponsive.

Feeling very cold, I moved to another shower stall and tried again. However, the same issue occurred: no water was dispensed despite multiple attempts, and the machine showed no signs of functioning.

At that point, I was extremely cold and quite distressed. I heard another female guest enter the bathroom and asked her for assistance. Shortly afterward, a male staff member came in. I stood behind the door for privacy while he checked the machine, which still did not work. He then tested the machine in another stall, which did function properly. He kindly invited me to use that stall, to which I responded by asking him to please leave the bathroom so I could shower in privacy.

2. WiFi did not work

Willerby 2 bedroom static caravan (deluxe)

Liked: Spacious, clean, well equipped caravan. Wonderfully situated just a short 10 minute walk to the beach. Well stocked shop on site with pizzeria if you don't feel like cooking. Staff all professional and super friendly.

Disliked: It's such a small thing really but a toilet roll already in the bathroom would be great.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: - Very good location: 20m walk to the beach, 20m drive to Lizard and Helston.
- Plenty of toilets/showers, washing yo rooms throughout the space so it saved us having to walk a lot to get to the toilets. They have the main ones, but then extra closer to the further pitches.
- Everything is clean daily.
- Shop on site with essentials and pizzeria in the evening.
- Very good sized pitches.
- Kids play park on site.
- Many Water fountain scattered around the pitches.

Disliked: - 50p per 5 minutes shower is enough , however some of the machines were a bit dodgy and would count less than 5 minutes, so maybe this should be checked more often.
- Pitches are on a hill, kind of thing, i find it quite strange for sleeping but after the first night we got used to it.
- On our first night there was a fight/argument from the neighbouring campers and, although it states there are wardens at night, no one approached them. I felt unsafe that night as we have children who could hear the efiing and jeffing and arguments. Again on the same night there was a group of campers who partied all the way till 1am and nothing intervention from the site. (This was only on the first night, so maybe their were advised the day after, but not at the time of the noise)
- The morning after the above, there was sick and sh** on the toilet cubicle and it stayed until the cleaner came in the afternoon. Give the circumstance I think this should have been dealt with sooner.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: We had a whole big pitch for our group of 5 tents. Very quiet as it wasn’t too busy. The toilets and showers were clean as they were checked often. Hot water for washing up dishes . The shop well stocked and a lovely walk to the beach (with cafe and toilets)

Disliked: The pitch was slightly downhill but it was still OK

Local attractions

The clean, safe and award-winning Kennack Sands (with lifeguards on duty during the summer months) is a 10-minute walk from Chy Carne, and has shops and cafés as well as a dog-friendly stretch on one side: hum the theme from Jaws as you spot a basking shark, or clamber up the coastal path for scenic walks in both directions. A short drive away is Kynance Cove, which is one of the most photographed spots in Cornwall: fool folk that you’re in the Med by snapping a pic here or at postcard-perfect Mullion Cove on a sunny day. The Site of Special Scientific Interest Goonhilly Downs is on the doorstep, best known for its Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station, once the biggest in the world and still with satellite dishes that can be seen for miles: the building of a new space science centre on the site was announced in 2011. Let the kids loose too at the Lizard Point Lighthouse, the last manned lighthouse before automation and now with a heritage centre with exhibits, displays and some of the original engines, or take them to drool over the dromedaries at Cornish Camels. As it’s Cornwall, holidaymakers of an amphibious disposition will be in heaven with top sailing, surfing, scuba diving and other watersports along this stretch of Cornish coast, and several surf and scuba schools in the area for both newbies and water experts. Landlubbers will find plenty to do too: horse riding, bird (and shark) spotting, golf, fishing, clay pigeon shooting and more are all within reach. Day trips include squawking at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, flying at the thrill rides of The Flambards Experience and Crealy Great Adventure Park, or browsing around the towns of Falmouth, St Ives, Penzance and Truro for seafood, shopping, more beautiful beaches and a boat ride to the ancient harbour at Marizion’s St Michael’s Mount. Finally, round off your trip with an afternoon or evening at Penzance’s clifftop open-air Minack Theatre – squint a little bit at the amphitheatre and you could almost imagine you’re in Roman Britain…
