  • Luxury glamping site set in 22 peaceful acres at Treworra in Cornwall
  • A 15-minute drive to Bossiney beach, and 40 minutes to Padstow
  • Shepherd’s hut with private garden and direct access to Davidstow Moor
If you’d like to be in the middle of all the action in Cornwall and you’re looking for a dash of luxury, Owls Gate in the village of Treworra might well cover both bases. The stylishly bijou shepherd’s huts are within half an hour’s drive of local beaches, Bodmin Moor and historic towns like Boscastle, Tintagel and Port Isaac. Surrounded by 22 acres of peaceful pasture – often inhabited by cows, sheep and wild horses – each hand-crafted shepherd’s hut comes with a kitchenette, shower room with lush complimentary toiletries, a comfy banquette and breakfast bar with views over the fields. The sleeping area has a proper double bed and a large-screen TV for watching favourite films on lazy days. No need to worry about keeping warm either – Everhot stoves take care of that for you. Outside, there’s a private garden area for chilling on comfy Adirondack sun loungers (great for sunset-watching or stargazing in clear evenings), getting together for barbecues around the picnic bench and keeping cosy by the firepit. Clearly signposted off the A395 in Davidstow, Owls Gate is accessed up a private lane. From the pitches, a typically Cornish ‘sunken’ lane leads directly up to Davidstow Moor for hiking and cycling adventures.

Local attractions

If you’re holidaying with kids, there may well be a headlong rush for the beach. You have plenty of options close by, from the tiny rocky cove at Bossiney to the cliff-backed sands at Trebarwith (both 15 minutes’ drive). Mad-keen surfers can head to Polzeath (half an hour), where there are surf schools and reliable waves in Padstow Bay. Talking of Padstow (40 minutes), foodies can feast on fish and chips, shellfish from street stalls and award-winning cuisine in this smart Cornish enclave of gastronomy. Other pretty-as-a-picture seaside towns to have a nose around may include the fishing villages of Boscastle (20 minutes) or Port Isaac (25 minutes), both with a sprinkling of harbourside pubs and cafés. To get a feel for the ancient mysteries of Cornwall, visit Tintagel (20 minutes) and explore the vast castle standing dramatically over the sea, forever linked with the legends of King Arthur and Merlin. Head inland to Bodmin Moor and journey further back in time with bracing hikes up to the prehistoric stone circles at Stannon (20 minutes), King Arthur’s Hall and Trippet (both half an hour).
