  • Eco-friendly pop-up site on the High Weald Landscape Trail
  • In rural West Sussex, 10 minutes’ walk from Standen House and Garden
  • Communal area with a firepit; Finnish woodfired sauna for hire
Sunnyside Pop-up Camping is a West Sussex site with a Scandinavian twist. In the centre of the site, there's an authentic Finnish woodfired sauna for hire. Coupled with country views and a low-impact, eco-friendly ethos, this is a splendid place to stay indeed… The four fields are rich in biodiversity and have plenty of space for families, as well as their dogs. Stroll through the fields to the local pub in under 15 minutes, which has a great food menu for humans and designated dishes for dogs. Just 10 minutes’ walk away is the National Trust’s Standen House and Garden too, which has a schedule of kids’ activities through the summer and a lovely café for lunch. This is all within an hour’s drive of the southern half of London, half an hour’s drive from Royal Tunbridge Wells and within the High Weald National Landscape. In fact, the High Weald Landscape Trail crosses over the bottom of the site’s lower fields, so guests can go hiking (for miles and miles…) without driving to any trailheads. The Bluebell Railway station in Horsted Keynes is 10 minutes’ drive away should you fancy a steam train ride through the High Weald countryside. The railway track passes fairly near to the site, so it’s not unheard of to hear the toot-toot from your pitch. And what about the end of the day? The communal area at Sunnyside Pop-up Camping has a firepit for a friendly after-dark atmosphere. Barbecues are also permitted on site. Pick up some delicious local produce from the organic farm shop 10 minutes’ drive away, which also has a garden and café.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked The warm welcome from Heath and Kat. The laid back vibe. The friendly connection between families. The sauna. A shower that’s on until you switch it off (not an annoying push button thing). A well maintained toilet, and the dough twist bread making on Saturday night for all the kids. Simple, beautiful, done well by a couple determined to provide an experience you’ll remember.

Disliked Nothing.

From the manager: Thanks for writing such a lovely review. we loved running the bread activity for the kids. That was our first time doing it for customers. We are really glad it went well and will definitely do that again!

This is a very special place. The campsite is very well run,…

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Hosts were super friendly and helpful, great rope and nest swings, lovely site with loads of space. Beautiful shower. Clean and excellent composting loos. Very handy washing up zone. All in all a well made campsite. There are several fields - don’t stop at the top, if you want remote there is loads of space down the hill (wish we had anticipated the music and gone there!).

Disliked For a family site it was very noisy both evenings with pumping music from some of the guests very late into the night, which didn’t help little ones trying to sleep. I was surprised that the owners didn’t call time for everyone else on the campsite.

From the manager: Thanks very much for taking the time to write this for us, and we are so glad you like what we are doing here. I am very sorry you didn't get a good nights sleep.
I didn't have to look it up to know that you were there for the Midsummer weekend, as we too heard the noise.

You were quite right to feel surprised that we didn't call time on the music. One of the reasons we camp onsite with our customers is to be there at hand to manage these kind of situations.
As it happens, we did go for a walk around the site that weekend, steeling ourselves to tell someone to leave there and then, only to discover that the music was not coming from our site. In fact on Sunday we discovered from our neighbours that it was the talk of East Grinstead, as the music was coming from some rave party from the reservoir: Miles away from us!
We do love having music on site, there are not many sites that do, and we want to be one of them. But we have a well observed 11pm curfew, which we do help manage the best we can.
We do only allow music or groups that want to chat around the fire late in top field which is only one of our 4 fields. So you are quite right in that if you want more solitude and quiet you can normally find it on the other three fields. Unfortunate that weekend it would not have helped as the music carried across our whole site and in fact the whole of the neighbourhood!

We do hope this unfortunate event did not put you off visiting us again and we hope to welcome you to Sunnyside again in the future.

Probably the best campsite I've found on Pitchup!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Thoroughly enjoyed staying here... the owners are friendly and always available to help deal with problems. The campsite is well run and peaceful. The facilities are basic but kept clean and tidy. I particularly enjoyed using a sauna for the first time, and Heath was happy to explain things. Will definitely book again!

From the manager: Thanks Josh,
we are so glad you liked the Finnish Sauna, it's been great to introduce so many people to the Skandi way,
see you again soon

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This is our second year spending May half term at Sunnyside. We were their first ever guests so it’s wonderful to see what they’ve put in since then..The field is absolutely beautiful and bordered by woodland on all sides. There is plenty of flat land, perfect for camping, even though the field slopes gently down and offers a fantastic view of east Grinstead church in the distance. The bird life is incredible.. I woke early enough for the dawn chorus one morning and using an app, identified the following birdsong: tawny owl, wood pigeon, buzzard, green woodpecker, spotted flycatcher, Bonelli’s warbler, wood warbler, treecreeper, robin, great tit, blue tit, firecrest, wren & bullfinch! It really was quite something! In terms of facilities Heath and Katya have built a wood sauna on site..which is a perfect way to end the day, especially if you’ve been paddle boarding at near-by Weir Wood Reservoir.. they have a great new shower system with gas boiler and have nearly finished a very cool bucket shower.. the loos are composting and well kept. Heath offer a generous amount of wood for £8 and I saw that you could rent fire pits if you didn’t have one..they also offer cafetières of fresh coffee, pots of tea and a nice selection of snacks and bits and pieces. We spent our first night with two other families before the rest of our massive group arrived.. there was plenty of space for everyone.. in fact I think the spaciousness of the camp site is one of its real benefits.. east Grinstead with a station, big Sainsburys and Waitrose is less that 10 mins away and Plawhatch organic and biodynamic farm shop, butchers and cafe is just up the road. Thank you for a lovely few days!

From the manager: Thanks so much for such a beautiful review, we appreciate the time it takes our customers to write them. its so lovely for us to have returning customers from our first weekend. you could at least see the potential.
See you again next year Heath

Liked We’ve had a brilliant weekend here, I only wish we’d found Sunnyside before their last weekend!
Lovely warm welcome from Heath and Katja on arrival, with suggestions of where might be best to park our campervan.
The whole place oozes good vibes and positivity - exactly what’s needed after a busy week at work. We will definitely be returning next year, especially as Sunnyside is only 15 mins from where we live. Looking forward to it already!

Liked Nestled in serene woodlands, Sunnyside Pop-Up Camping offers a delightful retreat. During my two-night stay, I reveled in the authentic Swedish sauna, embraced eco-friendly compost toilets, wandered through the countryside to a nearby pub, stargazed, sitting around my roaring firepit. Heath and Katja and their family, our hosts, radiated warmth, making us feel like family, from the moment we arrived. Even helping us choose the perfect spot for maximum sunshine. They couldn't do enough for us.
The starry skies, so clear they revealed constellations and even a shooting star, added a touch of magic. Sunnyside—where simplicity meets wonder with a Scandinavian twist. This place is a magical must! We will most certainly be back soon.

From the manager: Thanks so much for taking the time to review us, we too saw shooting stars that weekend, hope its a good sign, Look forward to seeing you next season
