Scenic pitches surrounded by woodlands

  • Scenic site surrounded by woodlands in the Kent Downs
  • A 10-minute drive from Maidstone and Leeds Castle
  • Next to Kent Showground; pet-friendly site with a dedicated pet shower
Situated in the scenic Kent village of Detling, this family-focused campsite is a great place for all the family to escape the stresses and strains of everyday life and to reconnect with nature and each other. Other top-notch attractions like Leeds Castle (10 minutes' drive) and Maidstone (10 minutes) are also easy to access. Guests staying here have access to modern and well-maintained bathroom and shower blocks (with separate male, female and disabled areas). Other handy on-site amenities include a laundry room, washing-up areas, waste disposal points and a pet shower, all of which are kept spick and span by the campsite team. Please note that only only gas, electric or charcoal barbecues are allowed, and open campfires and firepits are not permitted.

What customers say

A lovely, peaceful spot with top staff. Spacious pitches, great woodland walks. Clean facilities are a big hit. Wi-Fi can be spotty & fewer kid activities, but most loved it and plan to come back.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Well managed site, very clean, friendly staff and good facilities.

Disliked Beware there’s not automobile signal - which could be a positive.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review Graham, we really appreciate it and we're glad you enjoyed our stay with us! :) We do tend to find that if an event is happening at the Kent Event Centre (next to us), phone signal across the park does seem to be affected however we're pleased to hear it didn't affect your stay - & we have to agree with it being a positive, sometimes it's nice to switch off and just enjoy the peace and quiet :) Hope to see you again, The Oak View Team, Ruth, Lynsey & Rob.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Easy access to the site from motorways & A roads but once there I found the site to be so peaceful.

Easy check in with the site stewards, who were cheerful throughout our stay. All pitches were found to be in a good condition. No play park but everyone found their own space to play games elsewhere.

Easy access to Maidstone where shops are plentiful.

Toilet / shower block was clean throughout our stay.

I would definitely recommend

Electric grass pitch

Liked Dawn met us and showed us to our pitch. She also gave us some milk as we didn't have any. Toilets and shower clean and tidy.

Disliked Dog walk limited to a pathway through woods and nowhere for a good run around. Dog shower very dirty and full of leaves.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review Anita, we're glad to hear that you found our toilet/shower facilities to be clean :) Apologies that the dog shower was dirty when you used it, we do monitor this daily however we do have a lot of campers staying with us using it, so we will make sure to do extra checks. With regards to the dog walk, you can venture out further, there are lots of walks around us locally, if you do choose to visit us again we'd be more than happy to give you directions to some walks further afield where your dog can have a good run around. Electric grass pitch

Liked Fabulous welcome from the ladies in reception. Well done ladies. Everything was explained really well. We were guided to our pitch and the electric post was explained. A delightful site in a very good position for the tunnel/ferries and the coast. Spacious pitches in a well maintained park. The facilities were awesome 👌.

Disliked Being school holidays there were a lot of younger children who were very noisy and running all over the site till quite late at night.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review Bob, we're so pleased you enjoyed your stay and were happy with our facilities and the pitch!
We can only apologise about the noise throughout the night, we do outline our quiet hours within our park handbook and just hope that they are adhered to. We hope to see you again in the future! The Oak View Team; Ruth, Lynsey and Rob :)

Local attractions

Oak View Holiday Park is in prime position to traverse the best of Kent's countryside, coast, castles and well-known gardens – with Essex and its coast easily accessible too just to the north. Plenty of pedalling and perambulating opportunities are around the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, such as the 153-mile route of the North Downs National Trail through from Farnham to Canterbury, passing the White Cliffs of Dover. This takes in the 119-mile Pilgrims' Way, the supposed route of Thomas Becket from Winchester to Canterbury Cathedral. Elsewhere in Kent, loads is on all year round in the 500 acres of parkland and formal gardens at lovely Leeds Castle (10 minutes’ drive), like free falconry displays, play areas, special events and making one's way intrepidly out of the castle maze. Also see Rochester Castle (20 minutes) on the east bank of the Medway for its 12th-century keep and stacks of historical info: the castle was sacked during the Peasants' Revolt, held for Henry III against the barons, and besieged (also because of barons) by bad King John. And of course, just next door is the Kent Showground, which hosts all sorts of events throughout the year (the most famed being the Kent County Show, which usually runs for three days in July).
