  • Peaceful family-friendly site in East Sussex
  • 10 mins from site of Battle of Hastings; 15 mins from Hastings town
  • Five minutes from Sussex vineyards
Planning your getaway doesn’t have to feel like launching a military campaign – at Meadowview Park, a peaceful and secluded site less than 10 minutes from the town of Battle in East Sussex, it’s a breeze. This part of Sussex is 1066 country, so diving into the history of the battle that changed the course of England is a must – at the site of the world-famous Battle of Hastings, less than 10 minutes’ drive from Meadowview, explore the ruins of an abbey built by William the Conqueror, follow the sculpture trail, visit the gatehouse exhibition and climb to the abbey’s roof for views over the battlefield. There are plenty of pleasant walks in the area around Meadowview, so bring Rex along and he can have a break too – there's space to have a walk around the park as long as dogs are kept on a lead. When you’re feeling peckish, fire up the barbecue or get that campfire burning to sort dinner. You can get all the essentials in Hastings, 15 minutes from the site, or head to one of the restaurants within 10 minutes of Meadowview. Wash down dinner with a drink at the pub in Sedlescombe, 15 minutes' walk away, and grab sweets and ice-cream for dessert at the small shop on site.

What customers say

A friendly, well-kept spot with a great welcome. Guests loved the clean ablutions, especially the showers and loos, and the staff's helpfulness, especially Kev and Chris. The bar and café are a big hit. Most feedback's good, but a few noted a slope on tent spots and noise from the nearby A21.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked Nothing

Disliked A Trailer park feel with mainly residential pitches, hardstanding pitches for caravans are shaded in the afternoon and are away from the camping field so absolutely no atmosphere of fellow campers due to residential pitches. Unable to comment on toilets and showers as did not use, bar and cafe were shut this weekend!

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Owners friendly, was shown where to pitch up.
Needed code to get in and out of camp, which was very re assuring for safety.

Disliked Didn't like the fact dogs were walked to pee and poop on the camping field, not at all ideal the thought of pitching up on dog skids.
No bin had to take rubbish with us every day to put in bins in places we visited.
Also being disabled, no disabled access to the toilets and showers.
Cafe was not open and bar only open on Friday night, so had to eat and drink elsewhere.
The toilet bins were overflowing in most of the cubicles, wetwipes, sanitary towels and tampons
Possibly nappies.
Need to open up doors and make it disabled friendly, with bars on walks to help us to get on and off the toilets, very low toilets.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked Very helpful and welcoming staff. The bathroom block and facilities were very clean at all times.

Disliked The graveled hardstands have a slight slope for which I had to use my levelling wedges, to be comfortable at night.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked The campsite is organised and well kept with clean facilities and friendly staff. Tent pitches are on a bit of a slant but we knew it from reading other reviews. The addition of a bar and cafe on site was good though it was a bit unclear when they open.

Disliked Whilst spacious and clean, the facilities could do with separate toilets as queues can get pretty long and not everyone's bladder can hold on.
As in many campsites there is a quiet time after 11pm where noise should be kept down. Unfortunately for all 3 nights we were there, groups of campers where out laughing and talking very loudly until very late, even when asked not to, so we did not sleep much.

From the manager: Sorry you did not enjoy your experience with us. This site is well organised as all the other reviews tell us it just seems that you are not happy with anything. I’m sorry to say but we are very small Site and we keep our prices down and we can’t have lots and lots of room for your children and it does state on the webpage

Local attractions

You don’t have to go far from Meadowview to get your fill of sightseeing. The coastal town of Hastings is a 15-minute drive from the site – explore the streets of the Old Town, visit the museums and the ruins of the 11th-century Hastings Castle, climb to the skies on the East Hill Cliff Railway funicular or dive below the ground at St Clements Caves. Not all of the stately homes near Meadowview are in ruins, and some have interesting literary links: the Georgian Lamb House in Rye was home to Henry James, Bateman’s in Burwash is where Rudyard Kipling lived until his death, and Monk’s House, an hour away, was the retreat of Virginia Woolf. Away from novelists, the spectacular 14th-century moated castles of Bodiam and Scotney are both within half an hour of the site. There’s more to this part of the country than history and it might even surprise you. When you think of wine regions, you possibly think of France, Italy and Chile – well, now you can add Sussex to that mental list… Grab your sober buddy and head for tours and tastings at Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard or Carr Taylor Wines, both within five minutes of Meadowview, or Kingscote Estate, Court Garden Vineyard, Ridgeview Winery or Bluebell Vineyard, all around an hour away. For more kid-friendly activities, head to the aquarium in Hastings or join in Smugglers Adventure at St Clements Cave.
