  • Immaculate, peaceful and adults-only park newly opened in 2019
  • Countryside setting 20 mins' drive from Blackpool and 30 from Preston
  • Smart, modern and spotless amenities; dogs welcome
You might not be the type to pick a park solely on the strength of its smart and immaculate amenities… but casting an eye over the site pics at Wilson House Holiday Park should convince you that you surely should. Newly opened in 2019, Wilson House takes rightful pride in its swish and modern bathroom block – with separate areas for ladies and gents, as well as spotless toilets, showers, washing-up areas, private wetrooms and facilities for disabled guests. (As for other facilities, guests should be aware that this is a remote location with no shops or other amenities within walking distance.) The park is in peaceful Lancashire countryside, within 15 minutes’ drive of Garstang and from there another five minutes or so to the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The coast is close by too: the beach at Knott End-on-Sea is 15 minutes away, Blackpool is within 20 and Lytham St Annes is 40 minutes from the park. Heading inland, the southern tip of the Lake District is 40 minutes away and Windermere 55, or if you’d rather stay close to your swish base, the North Lancashire Loop passes by the park.

Local attractions

Walks, walks and more walks are all around if that’s your thing: if you’re feeling especially active the big challenge is the North Lancashire Loop, a 108-mile trail that passes right by the park. Too exhausting? Panic not – there are plenty of more manageable routes around as well. And if you want to take in a whole lot of scenery at once (and at speed)? There’s a parachute centre 20 minutes away by car. Ever watched curling on TV and wondered whether you’d be any good with the broom? Head to Flower Bowl Entertainment Centre (15 minutes) to slither out onto the ice and have a go. There’s also bowling, a cinema and a crazy golf course here, along with a golf simulator where you can warm up for a round at Knott End Golf Club (15 minutes). Although you’ve not brought kids, along, there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy a bit of old-fashioned seaside fun. Blackpool (20 minutes) is a tiptop place for all that – head here to visit the zoo, the pleasure beach and model village, or waltz your way around the dancefloor at the Tower Ballroom before getting fish and chips on the beach.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The toilet and shower facilities are some of the best I’ve seen in nearly 30 years of staying on campsites. Everything about the site oozes quality. The touring pitches are all pretty level, hard standing, fully serviced with electric, water and drainage. I would happily recommend this site to anyone.

Disliked: Had some difficulty getting into the site on both nights we stayed there due to the number recognition not picking up the registration plates in the dark with our headlights on. I tried with sidelights only and had to drive up to the barriers and reverse multiple times to get the barrier to lift. The barriers worked perfectly fine in daylight though. I contacted the site about this to see if I was doing something wrong and they said I could ring them any time of night if we couldn’t get in.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Check in was so easy - just ensure registration number is correct and when you arrive the barrier lifts and you find your number plot. Site appears to have regular vans so was quiet Facilities were fabulous - clean and spacious the showers hot hair dryer for your use can honestly say that they were the best facilities I've used away from home. Pitch was spacious and level all amenities nearby. Location was great out in the countryside about 20 min from Blackpool there is a toll bridge to get to site which cost between 60p-90p and saves 10minuites so worth the cash. Would definitely stay here again if in this area

Disliked: Wi-Fi signal wasn't brilliant and kept dropping in and out but liveable with and can get data signal

Liked: We liked everything. The site were very helpful with any queries we had. The shower / toilet blocks & washing up facilities were lovely. Plenty of space on the pitches. Lovely & quiet. Very friendly resident chicken. Great wifi.

Disliked: The showers could be a little more powerful, not enough pressure coming through when more than 1 shower was in use. (Could do with fitting a water booster). Would not put us off from staying again though.
