Foxwold Huts and Camping: Exterior

General

  • Modern shepherd's huts on a peaceful Eden Valley smallholding
  • A 15-minute drive from Penrith; half an hour from Ullswater
  • Rural site with far-reaching views and barbecues provided

If you're on the lookout for comfy Cumbria stays, check out the accommodation at Foxwold Huts and Camping, a peaceful farm site set over eight secluded acres of rural land. Surrounded as they are by green surrounds and finished to a high standard inside and out, these handsome huts make quite the pretty picture and are an all-round brilliant backdrop for stints in the Cumbria countryside.

Shepherd's huts have come on quite a bit since pre-industrial times – these models come with barbecue areas, outdoor furniture, plush soft furnishings and comfy beds. They've all been thoughtfully set up far apart from other buildings in a quiet paddock, with green and grassy vistas that are rather lovely to wake up to. They don't come with showers, but separate eco toilet facilities are on hand a short walk away.

Those who are in the market for proper rural views have come to the right place: it's part of a smallholding that's taken a variety of animals under its wing over the past few years, including ponies, a flock of sheep and Talulah the resident cow (guests can't actually wander around the farm area but it's certainly a fitting background). There's also a small stream that runs through the site, with fab views over the Pennines to boot.

Foxwold Huts and Camping is a mile from Morland village centre, where there's a café, pub and historic parish church. Penrith (15 minutes' drive) is home to the nearest supermarket.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The park caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

This place is brilliant. The location, accommodation and facilities are great and made for a really easy trip for me with my two daughters. The hut was gorgeous and the outdoor kitchen really well equipped for us to cook on the gas burners. Each hut has its own generous outdoor space with firepit. Kat and Andy are fabulous hosts and just lovely - really helping us to have a great holiday. The location is beautiful and there is loads to do in the surrounding area.

We loved our stay at Foxwold Huts and Camping, it was so quiet and peaceful and we were made to feel instantly at home. There was a great space for my friend's dog to run around in and the outdoor shower was a big highlight for us! We also loved the little touches around the hut and facilities that helped to make the stay even more enjoyable.

It could be worth having more signage on the road to make the entrance clearer.

We had originally booked for just one night, however, in less than two hours of being there we just knew we HAD to stay another. We had the most incredible couple of days here, we really can not recommend it enough.
Hosts Kat & Andy were so so welcoming from the minute we arrived and were just brilliant overall! Our two dogs were absolutely besotted with them the minute they laid eyes on them.
Their dogs need a special mention too, as they were just perfect with our two high energy pooches. So well behaved and sweet. Troy, their rescue pup, is one of the most sweet natured dogs we've ever met.
We truly love everything about this place, so much time, care and effort has gone into making this place what it is.
The outdoor shower was a first for us but it won't be our last!
We will be back as soon as we can be, I think we've just found our new home away from home...

Foxwold huts and camping was just fabulous, the units are so well spaced that you all have a very private area to chill, relax and enjoy the beautiful location, it truly is a stunning setting. we stayed in "George" and with the luxurious touches, comfortable bed and handy blackout curtains we had a very well needed restful weekend.
Kat and Andy were on hand if needed, polite and very welcoming they ensured our stay was a complete pleasure, we also appreciate the fact that dogs are allowed and this was the icing on the cake, I cannot fault this stay, even the weather was glorious, just can't wait till we can revisit !

Local attractions

This site is in the sweet spot between the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District and North Pennines, all of which can be reached in a 20-minute drive or less. Stick Ullswater (30 minutes) in your satnav if you're on the lookout for sailing or canoeing on a big body of water; there's also a 20-mile long walking route that encircles this loveliest of lakes, with several pubs and hikers’ cafés to be found along the way.

History-hunters may well want to spend a spell at Lowther Castle (20 minutes), a cracking country house with landscaped gardens. A niche but interesting option is to take a trip to Kendal Quaker Tapestry Museum (35 minutes) to see its 77 intricately embroidered panels.

In the event that the kids come down with a case of museum fatigue, a trip to the movies and live shows at the Rheged Centre (20 minutes) may well be just the job. The World of Beatrix Potter (50 minutes) is another safe bet for younger tots, while more mature teens may favour a high trees jaunt at Go Ape Grizedale (an hour and 10 minutes).
