Grab your other half or pile the kids in the car – the pods at Hardrigg Hall Glamping make a fabulous base for all sorts of Cumbria holidays, whether it’s a family break or a rural escape for a couple. These smart and cosy pods are part of a historic farm on the edge of the Lake District National Park – so historic, in fact, that it’s even got its own medieval ruins attached to the farmhouse. It's still a working farm these days (so unfortunately dogs are not permitted on site) and it’s a highly peaceful spot for a bit of rural relaxation, with some gorgeous views out over the Cumbria countryside. You may well choose to spend a fair amount of time simply chilling out on site, but if you do feel like heading out, you’ll be pleased to hear that this is a very handy base for all sorts of outings around the northern part of the Lake District, including trips to Ullswater, Skiddaw, Keswick and Penrith. It's also easily accessible from the M6 (about 15 minutes away), making journeys in and out nice and straightforward. Each of the pods sleeps up to two adults and two children (in a double bed and sofa bed), and also has its own ensuite bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. Outside on the deck, a charcoal barbecue, firepit, outdoor seating and picnic table should help you make the most of your time out in the fresh air, taking in the views by day and the starry skies by night.

Liked Amazing place! The pod was fully equipped with everything you need for holiday. Beautiful location-very quiet and peaceful. Enjoyed watching sunset and sunrise in peaceful environment. Amazing hot tub. Even made a friends with lovely farm dog and had a glimpse at farm life in the morning.
The host was very accommodating and caring. Really enjoyed our stay. Definitely will be coming back

Bluebell camping pod

Liked Quiet and secluded but close to amenities in Penrith. Pod was spacious enough to relax when not exploring the area

Disliked WiFi would be very welcome due to poor mobile signal. It would help to plan and book activities.

Liked Can't fault this pod very clean, great location, the little touches were fantastic. Little man loved the place. He loves farms so to be able to go and see the cows and the tractor made his day. Handy information pack with food and places to go. The views were amazing too. Definitely were go again

Bluebell camping pod

Liked When we arrived the pod was very welcoming with little added extras of chocolates for both the adults and children, prosecco and even some milk in the fridge. The pod was very clean and the heating was on ready for our arrival. Colouring and games for the kids as well as outdoor toys to play with. Bed were very comfy and warm. Views were amazing. The owners even allowed us to feed the lambs, watch the cows being milked, sit on a tractor and have a wonderful tour of the farm.

Disliked There was absolutely nothing that we disliked!!! However the phone and Internet signal was not the best. Guest WiFi would make it even better.

Liked The wood-fired hot tub was our favourite aspect. Seeing hares dotted across the fields in the mornings and evenings was also lovely! No internet, which was a plus for us.

Liked Cleanliness of the pod, views are beautiful, it was very peaceful, the little personal touches like Prosecco and chocolates, the activities supplied for children in the pod (box of colouring books/pens, cards, bat and ball, football, first aid kit)
All we needed was our personal belongings everything else you could need was supplied

Liked The hosts were amazing and very accommodating. I feel like they thought of every last detail, down to the little bucket of games with our little one with a colouring book and chocolate buttons. The pod itself was very clean and homely. The bed was extremely comfy. The views in a morning were phenomenal. What a beautiful site and spot.

Primose camping pod

Liked A lovely place with ample space, has everything you need apart from your personal things. Network signal is a bit weak, but that didn't put me off as I feel like I'm detached from the busy life of Internet world, EE Net work. Place is perfect if you like to stargazing as there's not much light pollution. They have a lovely dog who greeted me when I was opening the fence. Loads of Cows and sheeps. Travelling inside the lakes will take you from 30mins to 1 hour depending on where about you want to go. The owner is very friendly and approachable. Always there to help if you need anything. Will never hesitate to come back again.

The place is a farm, so you should know what's like to be in a farm.

You won't have to travel far if you fancy a day out – the historic Hutton-in-the-Forest is only five minutes’ drive away for a tour of the house, a woodland walk and a wander around the walled gardens (followed by a tasty slice of cake in the tearooms). If historic estates or garden tours are your thing, you’ll also want to check out Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens (15 minutes’ drive) and Lowther Castle & Gardens (20 minutes). Meanwhile, if you’ve got kids to entertain, you may find the likes of Walby Farm Park (half an hour) and the exhibits or cinema showings at Rheged (15 minutes). And of course you’ll want to venture into the Lake District National Park at some point too, whether you’re here to scale Skiddaw and Helvellyn (both 35 minutes), see Aira Force waterfall (25 minutes) or take to the lake at Ullswater (25 minutes) for a boat trip or watersports day.
