Lonsdale Park is a 40-acre estate in the Cumbrian countryside where you can stay close to nature and fish to your heart's content. The five separate lakes dotted about this spot were once all clay works, but now they're peaceful and well-stocked stretches of water where carp, tench, roach and pike can be sought. The accommodation here also comes with private fishing pegs (most of which are only a few feet from the back door), so there's plenty of room for all your angling gear. This well-connected site is five minutes’ drive from the M6, making it easy to head up to Carlisle (15 minutes) or over the border and into Scotland (Gretna Green is 20 minutes away). The eastern part of the Lake District is also well within range for a day out in the national park – Ullswater is 40 minutes away by car. Back at base, these quiet grounds are flat and dotted with clumps of trees. There's a well-kept network of paths to explore the estate on that’s free of any traffic or steep uphill climbs. Lonsdale Park is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest home to a wide variety of rare birds and wild orchids. The nearest large supermarket is ten minutes away by road on the outskirts of Carlisle.
