  • Small, quiet well-maintained family farm site just outside Silkstone
  • Just off the Trans Pennine Trail and a few miles from Peak District
  • Pubs, supermarket and train station all within walking distance
Heading off into the countryside for a walk or two? Or perhaps hoping to ride bikes along quiet lanes? Stay at South Yorkshire’s Broad Close Farm, just outside the village of Silkstone, and you’ll be able to stroll (or pedal) straight out into woodlands or onto rural pathways. And there’s more… this small and well-maintained site is handy for getting out to or set out to see intriguing places like Pot House Hamlet and the historic site of the Huskar Pit disaster. The Silkstone Waggonway is close by for more cycling and strolling days, and more intrepid bike riders might like to note that this farm is just off the Trans Pennine Trail (roughly at its halfway point, in fact). And of course, the Peak District National Park is but a few miles away… If that all sounds a bit too energetic, you can instead tour the area by train from the local station (10 minutes’ walk away and part of the scenic Penistone line) or hail a bus from the village. All sorts of attractions are close by too, including farm parks, stately homes and the national coal mining museum. Being rural doesn’t mean being cut off around here: a walk of five minutes or so will get you up to the village for two pubs, a steak house and a small supermarket (perhaps to pick up supplies for an evening by the barbecue or campfire back at the farm?)

What customers say

This quiet, rural farm campsite is a hit for its friendly hosts, spick and span facilities, and lovely country views with farm animals. Guests rave about the neat, flat pitches, great value, and handy spot near highways, shops, and pubs. Glamping and hot tubs are big draws. A few grumbles? A bit of road noise now and then, and some older loos could do with a freshen up.

The Burrow 1 bedroom shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked Upon arrival, we were greated by the host , who was very welcoming, he showed us how everything worked, and couldn't do enough for us during our stay. We stayed in the burrows ,it had everything we needed . The hot tub was lovely, and clean. The animals on the farm made our stay even more enjoyable.

Thanks for the birthday card and chocolates, its details like this that make a host stand out from the rest !

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Close to M1. Donkeys and Highland cows in field next to pitch. Grass pitches only but still ok at the top campsite despite the recent rain

Disliked Reasonably flat near the entrance but there was large slope for most of the site. Toilets and showers needed updating and some were across the road

Meadow View shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked Really enjoyed our stay, quiet site, peaceful just what we wanted.
Lovely little hut and hot tub was fab.
Easy to find and helped straight away to see how to use everything.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Great site with flat terraces. Accommodating management, great and sufficient loose and showers. Dark site, so looked daunting in arrival, but it was fine. Really couldn't have asked for more.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Site was very accessible. Facilities were clean and easy to use . Sight owner was very helpful and went of there way to make other pitches happy. Views breathtaking and pubs very local.

Disliked Little hilly in places so bring plenty of leveling devises as can be a challenge if flat pitches are taken up.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Good pitches, whole site is on quite a hill but the pitched are levelled out nicely. Facilities were good, could do with some shelves etc in the toilet/shower block to pop stuff down when getting ready but otherwise they were clean and exactly what is needed. Although the chickens in the toilet were a surprise the one morning!

The Burrow 1 bedroom shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked So much to like. Very easy to find. Lovely warm welcome and shown round the facilities by our lovely host. Great to see all the animals around the site. They all looked happy and well cared for too. The accommodation was very comfy and clean and ideal for the long weekend stay. The hot tub was just glorious and a great way to relax after a long walk in the stunning countryside.
