  • Wild-style glamping on a five-acre alpaca farm near Tickhill
  • Golf courses and Yorkshire Wildlife Park within a 20-minute drive
  • Family-friendly site with alpaca treks and playground on site
For a family-friendly holiday with added animal appeal, Tickhill Alpacas delivers – and how. You’ll be sharing the site, a five-acre farm near the South Yorkshire village of Tickhill (five minutes’ drive), with a herd of friendly alpacas who can also be booked for relaxing treks in the surrounding countryside. This is glamping with a twist of wild camping: there are no showers on site, but the large bell tents come with comfortable real double beds with memory foam mattresses (just remember to bring sheets, warm duvets and your favourite pillow), plus kettles and camping stoves. After dark, the tea-light chandeliers create a cosy, intimate vibe. Children (and grownups, to be honest) love getting up close and personal with the alpacas, who are used to being petted and will be only too happy to take food from your hands. Site owners Dean and Karen supply a small bucket of feed, but if you want to make a really good impression on the furry residents, be sure to have plenty of carrots and apples to hand, too. If the kids can tear themselves away from the animals, there’s also a play area and a vast field that’s great for flying kites, playing games or just chasing each other around. On the facilities front, the site has a couple of portable toilets and running water. Firewood is for sale, but if you’ve forgotten to pack your bedding or need to stock up on coals for your barbecue, there’s a large superstore in Maltby (10 minutes’ drive). For everyday provisions, you can head into Tickhill, which has a couple of small supermarkets, plus a handful of restaurants and pubs.
