What customers say
Quiet, clean adult-only site. Hosts are welcoming. Pitches are spacious. Fishing is excellent! Some noise from next door and areas need a spruce-up, but management listens.

The issues found wouldn’t stop us returning.
Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch
Liked Quiet site, rustic setting.
Disliked The gated access was an issue. We hadn’t been allocated the mobile number to open / close the gate, this took a couple of requests and attempts by site staff to sort out. This was later explained that they were busy and hadn’t set us up on the system. Another couple had the same issue at the time.
No food was being served due to kitchen upgrades. This wasn’t explained on arrival so disappointed when we asked at meal time. Alternate local restaurant was found.
Checkout times differed from what was advertised on Pitchup, the letter given when checking in asks for 10am departure not 11:30am as stated on Pitchup. These issues were all blamed on new management takeover.

Excellent rural site, clean facilities and level pitches.
Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch
Liked Lovely warm welcome from Col who runs the secure site with his partner Dawn. Very relaxed vibe, no petty rules or strange restrictions on how to position your motorhome. Your pitch is yours for the duration of your stay long as you're within the confines of it (IYKYK!).
Nice hot showers and clean facilities. Nothing was too much trouble, even though they run the place themselves and were very busy.
The bar is quirky, but in a good way (being at the side of a paddock which houses two horses). Col and Dawn were entertaining hosts and we had a great time. Col has great taste in music!!
If you like natural countryside, this is one for you. Don't expect white picket fences, fruit machines and 'don't fall in the water!' signs!!
Also, if you like fishing you'll love the lakes here.
All in all a very pleasant, relaxing and enjoyable stay. We would highly recommend and are going to go again.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch
Liked Great site it is one of our favourites which is close to home. We Had to have help to jump start our car and it was no problem for them to help us straight away. Smashing little bar on site with reasonably priced drinks. See you later in the year

Go with an open mind !!
Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch
Liked It was ok!! Bit rough around certain parts
Disliked Where do i start !!
Once arriving, we saw a lady from the bar area, she came over, whilst on the phone, chatted on phone the just pointed to the pitch and said your over there. That was our welcome. The pitch itself was spacious, however straight at the back of the pitch was a old dug up sewage tank, with old water in the hole. The bar area was ok, however we didn't eat, due to the fact that the hands and nails of the lady behind the bar, didn't look clean. 2 horses next to cafe with large amounts of manuer all in there area. Right next to where you walk past.
The toilets and shower was ok, but could be better.
No water to wash/dip your fishing nets.
Disturbance in night with police having to be called.

From the manager: We would not normally respond to this kind of review as everyone is allowed their freedom of speech & be able to give their own opinion, however... As this appears to be a very personal attack on a singular member of staff who was under immense pressure & very short staffed, we feel we should respond & address your points raised here & publicly as you never gave us the opportunity to address your issues/concerns (Nor said a single word about any of these points to any member of staff during your stay) while on site, as well as never formally checking out & tailgated another car in order to leave site.
When you arrived you rang the reception phone which was answered in the very busy bar, the lady you speak about in your review was also already on an emergency phone call sorting a very urgent matter out with the site owners, the site was packed & the call had already been stopped several times due to dealing with other customers, unfortunately the call was also time sensitive & could not be ended again. You were told while waiting to check in by other customers that the staff were very busy but are on their way. We have always prided ourselves on excellent friendly welcomes as our previous reviews show & we can only apologise you did not receive our normal standard welcome due to the extreme circumstances prior to & during your arrival.
Your pitch: as this was the only pitch available on your arrival we could not place you anywhere else, however, if we had been made aware you were not happy with your pitch we could have moved you later on in the afternoon as we had 4 cancellations due to the storm warnings. With no knowledge of your disapproval we were not able to offer you this opportunity. The septic tank is not old, it's brand new & in the process of being fitted, due to the bad weather this work has had to be halted, hence it lifting & the water in the hole. This is something out of our control & we can't control the weather (I'd like to add that with being brand new it is empty so does not smell!. Again, if this had been mentioned to us, we could have explained this to you.
To address the nails & hands of our bar staff, all our staff constantly wash their hands & wear gloves when cooking & working in the bar/ kitchen area. CCTV has been watched back & at no point have any staff not followed hygiene rules at any time. The lady in question has no nails due to the nature of her work; they are kept very short. Due to trapping her hands in a car boot a week ago all her nails are black, fingers & hands are bruised & cut caused by the severe injuries as well as general skin discoloration. Again, had this been mentioned, it could have been addressed & any worries dealt with.
(these comments & insinuations have deeply upset & offended the staff member, she is already going above & beyond continuing to work with broken fingers & is in constant pain with the injuries to both hands)
Horse Manure, we have never ever had any complaints about the horses or their waste before & they are cleaned up after daily but due to the storm we were unable to do this & missed 1 day. Not really sure what we can do about this, its nature & as said above we cannot control the weather.
Finally the police on site... This was a brief loud argument between 4 people who were way too drunk. we were called to attend, we did immediately & within a few minutes everyone was in bed.
unbeknown to us the police had been called by someone, not by us! the caller had blown the incident all out of proportion. When the police arrived, they asked where everyone was & were told everyone was already in bed, had a quick look round, complimented us on a lovely site & left. This is only the second time in 11 years they have been called & both times they were not actually needed or called upon by us.
We we only alerted to the bad review you have left by other customers staying on site, they were all very saddened by it as they had a totally different view/experience of their stay with us.
In summary all we can do is apologise that you felt this way but clearly if you had spoken to any member of staff during your stay we would have quickly & easily been able to address all your above mentioned points.
Excellent site with friendly staff and guests. Very clean
Stirrups 1 bedroom cottage / chalet / bungalow (hot tub, no pets)
Liked The site was very clean with friendly staff and guests. We stayed in one of the cottages with hot tubs, over the Easter weekend for 4 nights. Everything was very well kept and the staff were very helpful. Me and my partner will definitely return here for another much needed break and more great nights sleep as the bed was like sleeping on a cloud the mattress and pillows were perfect, I would actually like to know the make of them haha
Disliked I disliked nothing about this site. Everything was to our liking

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch
Liked Very spacious level fully serviced pitch, with beautiful surroundings and spotless toilet and shower facilities. Very easy to get to. Friendly staff.
Disliked Some rubbish left behind by other campers, broken umbrella, scruffy Teddy bear, cable ties and wires etc, this made the area next to our pitch look at little untidy. We realise this is not the owners fault but it could be easily resolved.
