Lots of space around the bell tent

  • Northumberland glamping site with a single family-sized bell tent
  • A 40-minute drive to Newcastle city centre or the Northumberland coast
  • Beds made up, private bathroom and outdoor space with firepit
Had enough of other people? Then you’ll surely be pleased to hear that you'll get Huntlaw Hideaway all to yourselves. That’s right – this Northumberland glamping site has just the one bell tent, so there’s no need to share any of this lovely rural spot with other guests. Unless you bring them as part of your gang, of course – the tent sleeps up to four, and dogs are welcome too. Lots of handy facilities are provided for you here – the beds (one double and two single camp beds) are made up and the private bathroom (with eco toilet and shower) has towels provided. There’s a games basket, a mini outdoor kitchen and a barbecue, and your private outdoor space has seating and a firepit so you can have a lovely warm evening looking up into the stars. This location, about 20 minutes' drive from the town of Ponteland, is an excellent one for chilled-out days of walking (good news for travelling dogs…) and has several local pubs nearby for tasty meals. Fishing lakes, golf courses, castles and sections of Hadrian's Wall could also be on the menu, or perhaps a hike in the Northumberland National Park (about half an hour's drive away). It's not all about the countryside though – from this lovely spot you’ll also be able to throw in trips to the coast at Whitley Bay or Blyth, or head to the bright lights of Newcastle upon Tyne for a taste of city life.

Local attractions

There are walks about bike rides galore around here, but if you fancy a slightly different outdoor activity how about a freshwater swim in the lake at H2o Trails (15 minutes’ drive), some coarse fishing at Whittle Dene Fishery (20 minutes) or swinging through the trees at Go Ape Matfen (20 minutes)? Sticking to the countryside, you could also take a gentle wander around Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens (15 minutes), meet exotic and farm animals at Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens (20 minutes) or seek out some of the area’s ancient history with trips to places like Corbridge Roman Town (half an hour) and Housesteads Roman Fort - Vercovicium (40 minutes). For a different day out, make your way to the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne (40 minutes) for the castle, Discovery Museum and Life Science Centre before crossing the Tyne Bridge to the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. Or how about a day at the coast? Both Whitley Bay and Blyth are around 45 minutes away for walks, beaches and fish and chips.
