Gordon the warden! Lovely man, made sure we had everything we needed…
Electric grass pitch
Liked Gordon the warden! Lovely man, made sure we had everything we needed and put our group's pitches together so we were close to our friends. The site is nice and quiet with level pitches.
Disliked Not many toilets in the toilet block but they were never busy when we needed them. Make sure you avoid the bridge down the road from the site if you're towing anything! No matter how small, the bridge is very very narrow. Nothing to do with the site, but worth noting in here because there's not much warning on approach.

Small, pleasant and friendly site but under development atm.
Electric grass pitch
Liked Very friendly and helpful on site manager. Clean facilities and easy distance away.
Small and quiet site.
Disliked Building site within 20 yards of pitches. Spoilt the views. Not working so not noisy but area under development meant site looked a bit rough. Not mentioned when booked. Same price as usual at £33 for campervan.

Liked Very friendly groundskeeper, everything super clean
Disliked We have no problem with old sanitary facilities, but only one toilet and one urinal for the men, two toilets for the women, only one shower and one washbasin each is a bit small at full capacity.

From the manager: Thank you very much for your review. We're pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope to improve the facilities as the next part of the park development
This was the most expensive and poorest site we stayed on.
Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch
Liked Nothing.
Disliked It's not a campsite it's a building site is have contacted Maguires and pitch up for a refund and not heard anything back.
It's dirty and poor facilities no disabled access to showers and toilets. The workmen were digging right in front of us from 8am with noisy heavy machinery there is only one shower each for male and female and their old and dirty.
It was the most expensive site of the 12 sites in a row we book on our roadtrip and that includes the 2 other maguires sites we stayed at. There is no staff only Gordon who is a nice enough fella and lives on site in a motor home.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We're very sorry to hear that your experience at High Hermitage Country Park did not meet expectations, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns.
Please accept our sincere apologies for the disruption caused by ongoing improvement works during your stay. Since the recent acquisition of the park by Maguires Country Parks, we’ve begun a phased redevelopment programme to bring the site up to the high standard we maintain across all our parks. Unfortunately, this has meant some unavoidable construction activity, and we completely understand your frustration.
We also acknowledge your concerns about the current facilities, including the lack of accessible amenities. We’d like to assure you that the sanitary block is next in line for a full redevelopment, which will include improved accessibility and modernised facilities.
Regarding your refund request — we can confirm this has now been processed. If you have not yet received confirmation, please do contact our central team directly and we’ll be happy to assist further.
Thank you again for your honest comments. We hope that in the future, once upgrades are complete, you might consider giving High Hermitage another try.
Warm regards,
The High Hermitage Country Park Team
Location ok, pitch ok, sanitary facilities unacceptable.
Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch
Liked Pitch good with gravel and grass generous side.
Disliked sanitary facilities unacceptable for a large campground, loose tiles in shower with water seeping through, very low pressure when anything more than one tap is opened. No dishwashing facilities, only a cleaners sink available.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and for your recommendation — we’re glad to hear you appreciated the generous pitch size and the layout of the gravel and grass areas.
We also appreciate your constructive feedback regarding the sanitary facilities. You're absolutely right that they are currently below the standard we aim to provide, and we apologise for the inconvenience this caused during your stay. Since High Hermitage was recently acquired by Maguires Country Parks, we’ve begun a programme of improvements across the site. We’re pleased to let you know that a full redevelopment of the sanitary block is next on our list of planned upgrades, which will include improved water pressure, new showers, and more appropriate washing-up facilities.
Your comments are invaluable in helping us raise the standard of the park, and we hope to welcome you back again soon to experience the improvements as they come into place.
Warm regards,
The High Hermitage Country Park Team
pitches good, sanitary unacceptable, staff friendly
Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch
Liked Motorhome pitches layed out well, with water and power on each site. location handy for train to walk hadrians wall.
Disliked sanitary block was very old and unacceptable with one shower per gender, and with loose tiles slopping grey water around the drying area, small sink for face and other washes. Dangerous uneven steps leading down to block with rough sawn handrails and rough pebble dashed wall to stop your potential fall.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re pleased to hear you found the motorhome pitches well laid out and appreciated the convenient location for accessing Hadrian’s Wall.
We’re sorry to hear that the condition of the sanitary block did not meet your expectations. Your concerns regarding the limited facilities, water drainage, and uneven access are completely understandable, and we take them very seriously.
Since Maguires Country Parks acquired High Hermitage, we’ve been working through a series of improvements across the site. We’re pleased to let you know that the sanitary block is next on our list for redevelopment. Plans are already underway to upgrade these facilities to bring them up to the high standard we pride ourselves on across all our parks.
Thank you again for your honest comments – they help us make the park better for all guests. We hope to welcome you back in the future to see the improvements first-hand.
Friendly staff, quiet, good location. Could use updating.
Electric grass pitch
Liked Location - 20 mins walk to train station and nice couple of villages / parks. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very quiet.
Disliked Pricey for below average facilities. Toilet block dated, shower was a trickle. View not great. Should be half the price for what's there currently. It looks like they are developing, a little shop for basics would be nice. And toilet block needs improving. Half the price would have been happy but you can find much more beautiful spots near by with better facilities.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and for highlighting the peaceful setting, friendly staff, and convenient location — we're pleased to hear you enjoyed those aspects of your stay.
We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding the facilities and pricing. We completely understand that the current amenities don’t yet reflect the quality you’d expect, particularly at this price point. Since High Hermitage was recently acquired by Maguires Country Parks, we’ve begun a phased redevelopment of the site, and the toilet and shower block is a key priority for improvement. Plans are already in motion to modernise these facilities, including improved water pressure and updated interiors.
Thank you again for your feedback. We hope you’ll consider visiting us again in the future to see the positive changes as they take shape.
