  • Relaxed family-run site on a farm in the Yorkshire Dales
  • A 15-minute drive from Malham Cove, Gordale Scar and Janet's Foss
  • Well-spaced hardstanding pitches with a large dog exercise area
Ash Keys Caravan Park is a family-friendly site in a quiet corner of a family-run 165-acre farm. This peaceful spot is at the southern end of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, half a mile from the teeny hamlet of Eshton and five minutesā€™ drive from more extensive amenities (pubs, takeaways and small supermarkets) in Gargrave. This is a most handy spot to settle in for outdoor activities: you can take walks or bike rides directly from the park, join nearby major trails like the Pennine Way (three quarters of a mile from the park), Way of the Roses and National Cycle Network Route 68. The fab attractions around Malham (Malham Cove, Janetā€™s Foss and Gordale Scar) are about a 15-minute drive away. The well-kept pitches here all have electricity and water hookups, plus access to a shared toilet block, Elsan point and recycling facilities. Dogs are welcome on site, and have been give their own dedicated exercise area where they can have a good run about. Barbecues are also permitted, and perhaps at their finest when graced with good food from one of the two excellent farm shops within a 10-minute drive.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Very peaceful, scenic and comfortable site. Left to your own devices, two toilets, washing up area and information summer house close to pitches. Plenty of space between pitches. Dog walking areas. Sheep and cows nearby which lovely to see especially the lambs and calfs. Bins and doggy bins close by. Water and electric near each pitch. Lovely relaxing break

Disliked: Wish showers were nearer the toilets. It's not a huge problem but showers are separate and near the entrance rather than the pitches.

Liked: Love this site so peaceful, love the self checkin. Massive pitches lots of space between them. Like the freedom on the site, no one saying your car needs to be this side or your van needs to line up here. Everyone staying on the site very friendly. Will be back have already booked again. WiFi brilliant too.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike, we couldnā€™t get our television to work, although the site provide a cable didnā€™t work on our old telly. But this isnā€™t a dislike, as the site provide dvds to borrow.

Liked: Fantastic 1 week stay. Well spaced fully serviced pitches with lovely countryside views. Hats off to the owners for setting aside a fenced off field specifically for exercising dogs off lead. A water bowl and tap were also available at the gate that enters the field - very rare indeed! Some pitches would benefit from levelers and/or long hoses. Take them if you have them. We found an excellent caravan accessory shop called Camper Select not too far away at Steeton near Keighley for a few bits/pieces we forgot to pack.

Local attractions

If youā€™re not planning lengthy rambles on the long-distance paths, set forth for some of the local highlights instead. Get going in Gargrave (five minutesā€™ drive) with a waterside walk by the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, then see cascades in action at Linton Falls (20 minutes). Make time for Malham too: a 15-minute drive gets you over to this fab village and its trio of top sights (Malham Cove, Janetā€™s Foss and Gordale Scar). After that, take an uphill challenge on the mountain paths of Pen-y-Ghent (35 minutes) or head underground to see whatā€™s in store at Ingleborough Cave (40 minutes). Other ways to get about? Perhaps with a day of horse riding from Kilnsey or a rather more laidback trip on the Settle-Carlisle Railway ā€“ both are about 20 minutesā€™ drive away. And if youā€™ve got tiddlers whoā€™d benefit from staying in one place for a while, thereā€™s plenty to keep them amused among the animals, tractor tours and play areas of Hesketh Farm Park (20 minutes).
