Ash Keys Caravan Park is a family-friendly site in a quiet corner of a family-run 165-acre farm. This peaceful spot is at the southern end of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, half a mile from the teeny hamlet of Eshton and five minutes’ drive from more extensive amenities (pubs, takeaways and small supermarkets) in Gargrave. This is a most handy spot to settle in for outdoor activities: you can take walks or bike rides directly from the park, join nearby major trails like the Pennine Way (three quarters of a mile from the park), Way of the Roses and National Cycle Network Route 68. The fab attractions around Malham (Malham Cove, Janet’s Foss and Gordale Scar) are about a 15-minute drive away. The well-kept pitches here all have electricity, water hookups and grey waste drains. The facilities block houses toilets and showers, a washing-up area and an information hub, and there are also recycling facilities and an Elsan point close by. Dogs are welcome on site and have their own dedicated exercise area where they can have a good run about. Barbecues are also permitted, and perhaps at their finest when graced with good food from one of the three excellent farm shops within a 10-minute drive.

Liked The site was very peaceful and shower block very clean. Everything was really good. We was here for my wife's 50th birthday. We messaged the owners on the day to ask if we could have a couple of visitors as we had met up with family. They got back to us instantly saying yes of course and wished my wife a happy birthday. Would highly recommend. The information hub was excellent and I can see this developing over time.

Disliked Nothing really apart from other people who was staying onsite leaving the doors open on toilets, wash room and information hub. This will eventually have a knock on affect.

This was totally out of the owners hands and people should have more respect.

Liked Pitches very spacious, free WiFi, all pitches had own aerial, toilet/ shower blocks clean and tidy, information room with games etc. overall a pleasant 2 night stay. Will definitely be back..

Liked Great pitches, loved that each one was a serviced pitch. Lovely and peaceful location and enjoyed a walk to Malham with the thanks to the information hub on site. The facilities were 10/10, lovely warm showers and always clean and tidy.

Spacious pitch.
Beautiful countryside.
Wildlife spotting.
The hosts provided a detailed welcome pack, thank you. There was also walking guides available, books, dvds and a selection of puzzles and games. My children enjoyed borrowing the games.
I think if it had a small playground in the centre of Ashfield it would be even better for families to keep the kids busy, but I understand not everyone wants that.

If you’re not planning lengthy rambles on the long-distance paths, set forth for some of the local highlights instead. Get going in Gargrave (five minutes’ drive) with a waterside walk by the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, then see cascades in action at Linton Falls (20 minutes). Make time for Malham too: a 15-minute drive gets you over to this fab village and its trio of top sights (Malham Cove, Janet’s Foss and Gordale Scar). After that, take an uphill challenge on the mountain paths of Pen-y-Ghent (35 minutes) or head underground to see what’s in store at Ingleborough Cave (40 minutes). Other ways to get about? Perhaps with a day of horse riding from Kilnsey or a rather more laidback trip on the Settle-Carlisle Railway – both are about 20 minutes’ drive away. And if you’ve got tiddlers who’d benefit from staying in one place for a while, there’s plenty to keep them amused among the animals, tractor tours and play areas of Hesketh Farm Park (20 minutes).
