  • Small site in the well-kept grounds of a B&B near Yarm
  • A 20-minute drive from the coast; 45 minutes from Whitby
  • Well-regarded pub a short walk away
Small and well-kept, The Old Mill is in the grounds of a small six-room B&B on the edge of High Leven, around five minutes’ drive from the little market town of Yarm. Surrounded by well-kept gardens, the touring pitches have a pretty backdrop. Facilities on site include free wifi and a toilet block; there are no shower facilities. For evening meals, the highly recommended local pub is a two-minute walk down the lane (it's best to book ahead as it's a popular spot). Yarm High street is five minutes' drive away with several popular pubs and eateries (and taxis available locally if you'd like a drink or two). There's also a playground close by and an electric vehicle charging point. Days out around here might involve a wander around Yarm (for the castle and some tasty independent shops), a trip to the seaside at Saltburn-by-the-Sea or Whitby, a boat trip on the River Tees, a round of golf, or taking an alpaca for a walk from a nearby farm (now that’s not something you get to do every day…)

Liked Friendly cleaners when they arrived in the morning, albeit too late for us to gain access to showers.

Disliked Our booking was missed by the owner and when we arrived we had no instructions about where to put our van, it was dark and it felt like we were in someone else's driveway rather than a camping pitch. After phoning twice I finally spoke to the owner who directed us to two pitches - one infront of a garage, the other right next to a public path. The single toilet wasn't clean, there was no shelving and the flush broke after my daughter used it. We were told we could have a shower in the morning but nobody arrived to show us until 9.30 when we had to leave.
I asked the owner by email and text for a refund explaining why we were unhappy here, but so far have been ignored.
DO NOT PARK UP HERE.

Liked lovely site friendly manager easy to find . park for kids just round corner with zip line . good value . if a shower had been available we’d have stayed a lot longer . very friendly cat !

Disliked the pub shut early !

Liked The setting and facilities were great. Pitch was in a great spot, on lovely grounds. Toilets were immaculate.

Lovely pub 2 minutes away and a great play area couple of minutes walk away.

Would have no problem staying here again!

Liked Great spot this. One night stopover after a day in Middlesbrough, lovely and quiet, plenty of space, pub down the path bustling, great comms. Wifi non existent but getting away from it all is why we do it right?

Nice clean toilet and gravel area to park the van.

Liked Lovely location, pub with great food just up the road, friendly owners,

Disliked Found the The Old Mill on Pitchup, We had a VW camper so only a portapotty, and no shower and not a lot of room for washing, so needed a toilet available 24hrs with a sink for washing, there is a toilet there and a small basin, there is nowhere to empty the toilet apart from down the 24hr toilet,
It says it takes motorhomes/camper vans but not really set for them,

Local attractions

Alpaca Alpaca (10 minutes’ walk) is the name of the farm where you can get trekking with an alpaca as your companion. Once you’re all warmed up, bigger hikes can be tracked down in the North York Moors National Park (20 minutes’ drive) or you could prep your legs for the 199 Steps in Whitby (45 minutes). This coastal spot has lots in the way of holiday activities, from a seaside fix at the beach to the abbey, brewery and Captain Cook Museum in the town. Meanwhile, a day out in Saltburn-by-the-Sea (20 minutes) could look like ice cream by the beach, a trip up the cliff tramway for some splendid views or taking in the fresh sea air on the pier. When you want to stick somewhere close by to the site, a small wander around Yarm Castle and high street (five minutes) is one option. Others are Middlesbrough Golf Club (10 minutes) or the Victorian street and museum at Preston Park Museum (10 minutes) Set off for some scenic ruins instead if you wish, as some of the Augustinian Gisborough Priory (25 minutes) still stands and guests can imagine what it looked like in its heyday.
