  • Car-free, no-frills campsite in the North York Moors National Park
  • Goathland 10 minutes’ drive, and Robin Hood’s Bay half an hour
  • Wildlife haven with a communal firepit; walks direct from the pitches
It’s time for moorland views, spectacular sunsets and walks in the North York Moors National Park direct from your tent. At The Little Hollins Pop-Up, 20 minutes’ drive from Whitby, you’ll also have a back-to-basics camping experience without too many frills, but there are two camping fields available, and the smaller is sheltered by trees. Whichever one you choose, you get to pick your own pitches. This is a car-free site, so after dropping your equipment off at the wide gate at the entrance to the field and parking in the layby 100 metres away, you can use the wheelbarrows provided to kit your stuff to the pitch. Look out for badgers, hares and weasels as you wander around the place. If you’re lucky, you may see buzzards circling in the sky and barn owls hunting at twilight. You can also have a forage in the hedgerows for brambles and elderberries, and join the kids as they roll down Roly Poly Hill. If you’re feeling sociable, meet up with fellow guests around the communal firepit – barbecues are only allowed in this area. Otherwise, head to the brace of pubs in Egton Bridge (five minutes’ drive), both of which serve good food; the village also has a farm shop for essentials. Numerous moorland and valley walks start right at your pitch, or you can be on the Coast to Coast Walk in less than five minutes’ drive. The site owner is happy to recommend routes as well as advise on local sightseeing attractions.

What customers say

Scenic Moors spot, near Goathland & Whitby. Friendly owners, communal firepit & clean loos. Water supply sorted with free bottles. More loos needed, unloading/parking tricky. Firepit proximity can be noisy late.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked It was gorgeous, Goathland round the corner for all Harry potter and Heartbeat fans, absolutely amazing. Beautiful people running Little Hollins and their kids were very well mannered. They had trouble with water supply but it made no difference as they were leaving 2 litre bottles of spring water in packs in one corner of the field and plenty of it. Lovely clean porter loo too. Thanks Anna and family. Yes we will return and this time I will remember my clothes.

Disliked Nothing 💕💕💕

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked More toilets definitely needed. Also access to site very difficult, with no easy way to unload the car contents on site, before driving off to park up.

Friendly owner.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Location, scenery, nature, communal firepit for socialising.

Disliked No nearby place to unload car (difficult if you are staying a few nights with more camping gear, not so bad if its one night and only a couple of you).

Only one portaloo.

Communal firepit great idea but near to tent pitches so anyone who pitches nearby who wants an early night, might get disturbed.

We hope that those who choose to pitch up near the firepit are understanding of those socialising, but we will mention this to guests on arrival from now on.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We loved the scenic location with easy access to Whitby and many famtastic destinations across the Yorkshire Moors.

We liked the communal fire pit - we made some friends as a result and easy access to local walking routes.

The owners were friendly and happy to provide information and advice.

Disliked Unfortnatley not easy to unload and pack up all your camping gear because theres no way to get onto the ground to unload and parking is down the road.

There was only one portaloo - this became unhygenic by the end of the weekend.

The communal firepit was a great idea for socialising, unfortunatley its very near where tents can be pitched so if you want an early night this might difficult due to groups of people talking at the firepit.
