  • Peaceful touring pitches in the North York Moors National Park
  • Whitby 15 minutes' drive away; 25 minutes to Robin Hood's Bay
  • Adults-only site with dogs permitted; easy access from A171
Can’t decide between a countryside location or being close to the coast? Bag yourselves a good bit of both with a stay at Burnt House Caravan Park. This peaceful family-run park is in the North York Moors National Park, so it’s surrounded by gorgeous rural scenery and has easy access to moorland walks, relaxed bike rides and other activities including fishing at Scaling Reservoir (five minutes' drive away). You may like to ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for a good taste of the landscapes or perhaps challenge yourself to a steep clamber up Roseberry Topping. Or how about that coast trip? The North Yorkshire coast is only about five miles from the site, and being close to the A171 means you’ll be able to zip along to the popular town of Whitby in about 15 minutes by car. Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay are all within easy reach too. The touring pitches here are for adults only, but dogs are allowed as long as they’re kept on leads at all times. Barbecues are permitted, and you can retreat to the games room for some indoor time if the weather’s not looking so good. Other facilities on site include a launderette, a wifi service, a chemical disposal point and bathrooms with showers and toilets.

What customers say

A peaceful, neat spot near Whitby/Sandsend. Staff are great! Pitches are spacious & private with water. Lovely nature, small play area. Facilities are dated. Some mention no washing-up spots or a basic Elsan point. WiFi is weak.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (maximum 7 metres)

Liked location- close to Whitby but still near to the moors. Good value for money as it came with electric and water supply for £30 per night.
The static caravans on site were well kept and looked after.

Disliked This place loves a good warning/ rule sign! Signs are everywhere! telling you of all the things you're not allowed to do, it didn't feel very welcoming! £5 charge for 1 dog was excessive, especially when there are signs everywhere instructing you to walk your dog off site. adult only site but then has a kids play area? its ok though, this was covered in warning/rule signs too.
toilet facilities were poorly installed around 30-40 years ago. really need updating and cleaning. the only thing clean and up to date in the toilets were the rules signage. if you're going to lay a concrete pad for caravans and motor homes, take 5 mins to make sure its level...
having to arrive by 7pm is annoying too. we advised/asked/agreed with the owner we would be late, only for the warden to call at 17:25 to ask when we were going to be there. not a chilled place to be for a holiday.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (maximum 7 metres)

Liked Manager was very helpful - 5stars for the site manager

Site was very smart and tidy
Toilet block was clean and tidy
Shower was adjustable with plenty of flow
Quiet site
A little high on price but still good value overall

Disliked Requested 2 pitches together -
We were told to ask when we booked in
this was allegedly no problem till we arrived to find seasonal caravans at alternate pitches
So we could never have stayed together with our friends
(what a rip off)
Payed £5 per night for the dog but had to walk it off site
(what a rip off)

1 star for the back office staff who got our booking wrong and told us it was no problem to have 2 pitches together

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (maximum 7 metres)

Liked The silence but you can still hear the A road

Disliked The toilets were from the 1970s very very outdated the pitches were on top of one another but spacious, we were given a option of two pitches no5 and no14 took no5 as no14 wasn't fit for purpose and shouldn't be classed as a pitch.
This is more a statics location no views of the coastline or countryside just the backsides of statics.
This was also supposed to have been adults only yet we had children running around the park for the three days we were staying.
I don't normally review but had to on this occasion and I feel like I am moaning and that's no me!

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (maximum 7 metres)

Liked Reasonably clean and tidy. Friendly and helpful site manager. Very quiet location.

Disliked The pitches are poorly designed and not level. The ground is too soft to hold the pegs to secure our awning, and kept coming out in the wind.

The waste water drains are raised up so that the waste water will not drain away. How ridiculous this is? A drain that cannot drain!

The toilet/shower blocks and chemical toilet waste disposal are too far away, as is the rubbish bins that have no recycling facilities!

Apart from a petrol/lservice station a few miles up the road there was nothing local to buy provisions from or anywhere to have a meal [The local pub was closed]. There was no information given to us about anything in the local area from the management. All other sites I have visited have given us a leaflet about what's available in the local area!

Furthermore, the site was advertised as adults only, but I did see children running around from the static caravans, and evidence from one of the seasonal pitches of toys and stuff. But, to be fair they was not at the site during our stay.

All in all, this is the worst site I have ever stayed at, and I will not be returning again.
However, if you like somewhere remote with bare minimum facilities, this could be the site for you.
