What customers say

Hosts are super welcoming, going the extra mile. Rooms are spacious & comfy with great beds. Loved the peaceful setting, hot tub & fire pit. Breakfast baps & pizzas a hit. Only slight niggle: extra beds/bags weren't as good as main beds.

Jenny Wren bell tent (hot tub)

Liked Literally everything! The couple running the place couldn’t do more for us!! We used the BBQ on the first night, the hot tub on multiple occasions and toasted s’mores on our final night over the fire! The sound of the river is sooo relaxing when getting to sleep and i went home dreaming of the bed! We had the best stay and I couldn’t recommend it more.

From the manager: Awww thank you so much Elissa, that's so kind of you taking the time to leave such a lovely review, hope to see you again and please spread the word to you family, friends and work colleagues :-)

Liked Our stay at Alum House was just perfect. We stayed in the Roe Deer and everything we needed was thought of. Michelle was a lovely host and met us on arrival to show us around the yurt and facilities.
The grounds are really well kept and toilet/shower block is immaculate. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely look at booking again in the future.

Local attractions

Historic Whitby (15 minutes’ drive) is home to dramatic clifftop abbey ruins, excellent fish and chip shops and loads of indie stores selling jet jewellery – you can also go scavenging on the beach for fossils, or take a boat trip to go whale watching or sea fishing. The dog will be happy scampering over the pet-friendly beach at Robin Hood’s Bay (15 minutes), where there are lots of rock pools to splash around in too. Further inland, Pickering (30 minutes) is the departure point for steam-train rides on the North York Moors Railway. You can also have a Harry Potter moment at Goathland (15 minutes), where the railway station doubled for Hogsmeade Station. In the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, you might like to nose around riverside villages like Glaisdale (25 minutes) and Beck Hole (15 minutes), scale Roseberry Topping (45 minutes) or get on long-distance trails like the Coast to Coast (five minutes to join it at Falling Foss) for spectacular moorland views.
