  • Family-run site on a working farm between the Dales and Ribble Valley
  • Farm park and playground on site (tickets must be prebooked)
  • 20 minutes' drive to Skipton Castle and Pendle Hill; 30 to Malham Cove
Get away to this peaceful site: Thornton Hall Country Park lies on the borders of Lancashire and Yorkshire, a landscape of stone bridges and deep forests, wild moors and hills. Here, there are plenty of trails nearby, as well as regular starry night skies. Staying at Thornton Hall Country Park means that you get 50% off the entry cost to the on-site children's farm park (on non-event days), where there is a splendid soft play, farm animals to 'ooh' over and family events. There's a packed schedule of daily activities in the farm park, from collecting eggs to handling rabbits and guinea pigs. The farm park's outdoor and indoor playgrounds ensure the Pennines weather never interferes with plans, and anyone still chasing thrills after descending the many slides in the soft play can head to the jumping pillows for more action. Away from the farm park, the site's facilities are mightily convenient, with modern toilet and shower facilities at hand. You're welcome to bring barbecues and sizzle your sausages while the sun sets and the cows settle to sleep. For other supplies, the café (open from 10am to 4pm) sells hot and cold food, snacks, desserts and hot and cold drinks (just as well, as you'll need a full tank for what's in store); takeaway is sometimes available too.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Access to the farm park
Small

Disliked Facilities not the best, only 3 toilets and 2 showers for the entire campsite

Only a small outdoor, uncovered washing up area
We had no electricity for a couple of hours and nothing was communicated to us.
They say no noise after 8pm however they had an event on in the secret garden which was very loud until 11pm.

Absolutely brilliant The best site I've been to.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Close to local towns
Farm was fun
Staff was friendly
Toilets okay

Disliked Music from dinosaur exhibition constant.
WiFi didn’t reach tent.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback – we’re so glad you enjoyed the farm, friendly staff, and our great location near the local towns!

We appreciate your comments about the music - this was part of our special Dino Live event during half term and only takes place during the daytime, but we’ll definitely take your feedback on board regarding the volume.

In terms of the WiFi, the camping area has its own dedicated network, separate from the farm park. If it was the camping WiFi that didn’t reach your tent or wasn’t working properly, we’d be happy to look into it further – thank you for letting us know.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The area is lovely and scenery from pitch was great.

On site farm great for the little ones, we did not visit as our children are a little older however, we did hear good reviews from fellow campers who had visited.

Disliked Advertised as no noise on site after 8pm, on a sunny evening I would never expect for this to be the case and I feel 10/11pm to be fair however one party playing music and being loud until well after midnight unchallenged spoilt the atmosphere.

We arrived back to our tent on day 2 to find a family had been allowed to pitch two full sized tents in the one pitch site and park their 2 cars either side leaving them incredibly close to our tent and practically driving over our guy ropes.

Both of which really did spoil our stay.

Add to that only 2 shower cubicles and 3 toilets to serve the whole camp and the washing up areas having no sort or roof/shelter left is very disappointed with our stay and we have no plans to ever return sadly.

Great site, plenty of space on our pitch. Children had plenty of…

Electric grass pitch

Liked Great site, plenty of space on our pitch. Children had plenty of space to play. Other visitors were nice and friendly. Nice and quiet of an evening. Staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and we decided to cut our stay short this time but will definitely be returning when there is sunshine.
Would highly recommend this site to others.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review! We're really glad to hear you enjoyed the space, the peaceful evenings, and that the children had room to play. It's great to know our team made a positive impression too.

Sorry the weather wasn’t on your side this time — hopefully next time the sun will be shining and you can enjoy a longer stay. We really appreciate your recommendation and look forward to welcoming you back soon!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked It was a very clean site and the staff manager was always on site and accommodating and friendly. Plenty of room on each pitch too. Everything was easily accessible and the toilet/shower/cleaning facilities look practically new.

Disliked Whilst it was dog friendly, the dogs were not allowed on any of the main site, only near your tent/van/field. So you couldn’t access any of the additional facilities.

Whilst I appreciate the park is a part of the farm facility, it would be great if the campsite users could access this as a part of their stay when the farm is closed at least ie 5pm onwards. Children being able to see it and not play on it when campers are cooking dinner etc is :(

From the manager: Thank you for your kind words! We're so glad you found the site clean, the facilities modern, and our staff welcoming and helpful — it really means a lot to hear.

Regarding your feedback on the dog policy, we completely understand how this might have been a bit limiting. Our main priority is the safety of our farm animals, which is why we ask that dogs remain only on the camping pitches and not in other shared areas. We appreciate your understanding on this.

As for the play park, thank you for the suggestion. It's great to hear that families are interested in using it during quieter times. However, as it’s part of the farm park (which closes at 4:30pm), we do have to consider safety and supervision, especially as there are no staff present after hours. We also want to be fair to day visitors who pay for access. That said, we’ll definitely take your feedback on board as we review how we operate in future.

Just a quick reminder that all campers currently receive 50% off entry to the farm park, which includes access to the play area during opening hours — we hope this adds value to your stay.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts, and we hope to welcome you back soon!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked It was clean, lots of space, good size pitches that were all numbered made it easy to find where we were going. Friendly staff who were around if any issues. Clean facilities with enough soap and loo roll.

Disliked Could do with more toilets and showers for the size of the site.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely feedback Jessica! We're really pleased to hear you enjoyed the spacious layout, clear pitch numbering, and our clean facilities — and that our team helped make your stay a smooth one.

We also appreciate your comments about the number of toilets and showers. This is something we're actively reviewing as we continue to improve the site and plan for future upgrades. Feedback like yours is really valuable in helping us prioritise those improvements.

Thanks again for staying with us — we hope to welcome you back soon!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Friendly warden on site all the time. Toilets and showers were clean. Only 3 toilets and 2showers though. Didn’t go to the farm but discounted entry with camping.
Bell tents looked nice but need to book extra welcome pack to get extras like kettle.

Disliked Could need more toilets and showers in busy times. Had to queue for shower one morning.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your detailed feedback!

We're delighted to hear you found the site clean and appreciated having our friendly warden, Paul, on hand—he'll be pleased to hear your kind words. It's also great that you noticed the discounted farm entry and the appeal of our bell tents.

We appreciate your comments regarding the toilet and shower facilities. While we do our best to manage demand, we understand that during peak times there may be short waits, and your feedback helps us plan for future improvements.

Thanks again for staying with us—hopefully, we’ll see you again soon!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The place is quiet and relaxing. Great location close to tourist destinations.

Disliked Needs a longer cable for hookup.
Only one toilet for women and one toilet for men.

Local attractions

Miles of circular path steeped in the mystery of the Pendle witches and the romance of the Brontë sisters, the Pendle Way passes through the farm. If you don't fancy the 45-mile full monty, sections of trail take you up Pendle Hill, or through Wycoller, the inspiration for Jane Eyre. You can also walk a chunk of the Pennnine Way from Thornton village, passing over Elsack Moor and down into the old village of Lothersdale. Skipton (15 minutes' drive) has a 12th-century castle that's hung onto its roof and dungeon through centuries of strife. The adjacent wood is the remnant of the ancient forests that once covered all of Yorkshire – it's full of trails and if you're lucky you'll spot kingfishers, herons and buzzards. Skipton is a handy spot for hiring bikes and taking boat trips down the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. Head to the Pendle Heritage Centre in Barrowford (20 minutes) to uncover the murky legends and the even murkier truths of the 17th-century Pendle Witch trials. Wizard fans should be sure to visit Malham Cove (half an hour), the massive cliffs featured in Harry Potter films. Finish off by following the trail to Janet's Foss, a waterfall said to be home to the Queen of the Fairies. Out here, it's not hard to believe it.
