  • Peaceful, secluded pitches at a family-run touring park
  • A two-mile walk from Hornsea and the East Yorkshire coast
  • In rambling country with easy access to the Trans Pennine Trail
Are you after a quiet, secluded and no-frills East Yorkshire spot – with easy access to hikes and the Yorkshire coast as well as some shops and pubs? White Cottage Holiday Park should see you sorted if so, as it's in peaceful and remote countryside just outside the town of Hornsea on the East Yorkshire coast. There's easy access from here to the Trans Pennine Trail, the long-distance path running for 215 miles from coast to coast across the north of England from Southport to Hornsea; plenty more scenic countryside walks, footpaths and trails start from around these parts too if you'd rather strike out on your own. The site is run by a local family who've given it a bit of a spruce up over the past couple of years, installing an updated amenities building with eco-friendly touches like locally sourced timber, lambswool insulation and a ground source heat pump system for the hot water and heating. With the seaside town of Hornsea a mile away, a major supermarket, shops, newsagents, bank and post office are all within walking distance.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Loved the laid back atmosphere, and how environmentally friendly the park is. Katie is lovely and I felt very welcome. There is plenty of surrounding countryside for dog walking. The facilities are very clean and well maintained. Most amenities are a short walk away. A perfect escape from the dramas of life!

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Clean site very well looked after.

Disliked Power went out at some point in the night and owner was annoyed that I rang her at 5:30am to have it reset but the whole site was down.
Sorry but my morning coffee with my book whilst my kids are still asleep is my favourite part of camping. I don't mind that it went out, that can't be helped. But wasn't expecting her to be so rude and make me feel so bad about asking for it to be put back on. But I shouldn't have to feel guilty for wanting electric when I have paid for it whatever the reason.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely site. Nice welcome on arrival and quickly shown to our pitch. Booked EHU pitch. Facilities, pot wash, toilets and showers all immaculately kept. We are fairly new to camping and this has been the best site we have stayed at so far. Coffee and pasties available for breakfast if you wish in a morning. 5 minutes into Hornsea with Tesco for supplies. Site was very busy but it was a very peaceful stay. Highly recommend and will book again.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Really clean and well looked after facilities.
The site in general looked well maintained.
I would definitely return to this camp site.

Disliked The only one negative was during the night there was some music being played until past midnight. The tent next to where I was staying, with my daughter, had put some music on and fallen asleep with it on. This kept me up until past midnight until I had to get go to the tent and get the person to turn their music off.

It doesn't sound like a major problem however getting all guests to be considerate would be appreciated. I did bring this up with the site and they did apologise, as it was something that would normally have happened but didn't on that occasion.

Local attractions

Get onto one of the local footpaths or trails from White Cottage Holiday Park, or tackle as much as you dare of the Trans Pennine Trail, which finishes up in Hornsea after its epic run east from Merseyside's Southport. Its mainly traffic-free route is suitable for horse riding and bikes too (and in most cases buggies and wheelchairs) and it was voted the best National Cycle Network in the country in 2015. Also within easy reach is Hornsea Mere, the biggest freshwater lake in Yorkshire and where peeps flock to for birdwatching, rowing, sailing, boat trips and fishing. Set on the remains of a vast wetland, it's a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Protection Area for birds, with many species visiting throughout the year. A café and 18-hole putting green are on the mere's shore. White Cottage is 13 miles from Beverley, with rail access to York and Hull for shopping and days out. You could also wander around the many stately homes of the region, such as Burton Constable Hall, Burton Agnes and Rise Hall.
