Fishing holiday, anyone? Stay in Lake View Lodge at Willitoft Fishery, 10 minutes’ drive from the pretty market town of Howden in East Yorkshire, and you’ll have the choice of three coarse fishing lakes set in eight acres of peaceful countryside. Sleeping up to three people, the lodge has ample cosy touches to keep you comfy, like linens and towels all provided and a modern bathroom with complimentary toiletries – and you’ll always find something to do, thanks to the Smart TV, DVD player, books, magazines and games in the sitting room. A well-equipped, spacious kitchen lends itself to self-catering holidays, but if you fancy eating out, Howden has a choice of tea rooms, bars and restaurants. Outside there’s a verandah and seating area with Low Lake views – have a stroll around the water in the evening after the day anglers have left and you’ll have the place to yourselves… apart for the abundant wildlife of course. There are plenty of walking options nearby, including Eastrington Ponds Nature Reserve (15 minutes) and strolls along the River Ouse (10 minutes). If you’d rather explore under pedal power, try the looped ride taking in Howden Minster (20 minutes by bike), Saltmarshe Hall (40 minutes) and the North Cave Wetlands (an hour). Fishing is payable on a daily rate, and your fishing licence is required. Pellets are sold on site, but please bring all other gear. The owners live on site and are always available should you need them.
