Orchard Farm: Field

General

  • Scenic pop-up site on a farm a mile from Middleton-In-Teesdale
  • Barnard Castle and High Force waterfalls within 15 minutes' drive
  • On the edge of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Orchard Farm is a pop-up site on a working farm in the fab Co. Durham countryside, just on the edge of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and about half a mile from the banks of the River Tees.

There’s splendid scenery all around this site – and you’ll be sharing the place with friendly neighbours in the form of the resident cows, horses and sheep. It’s a thoroughly rural experience but one doesn’t involve miles of driving along winding lanes: it’s easily accessed from the B6282. And that handy location also means it’s easy to get out to see some of the area’s top sights, including the High Force and Low Force waterfalls and Gibson’s Cave.

For all your essential supplies (perhaps for a barbecue, which you’re welcome to bring along), it’s a journey of less than a mile to the butcher and small supermarket in Middleton-In-Teesdale. There are also takeaways, cafés and a pub in town if you’d rather someone else took care of the food and drink. Bigger Barnard Castle, 15 minutes’ drive away, has more in the way of shops and eateries too.

Our stay was a last minute decision for my niece and I for that day and we were welcomed from the moment we arrived. We chose our spot with even the offer of help from Graham the farmer to help with our tent. We had a nice spot with a view and there was a pony and 7 day old calves that we were welcomed to see, pat and even have a wee ride. My niece loved this and didn’t want to go home. A friendly site with a very clean portaloo and bins provided. Graham was extremely attentive, checking we were okay. The site is slightly sloping but this didn’t bother us at all. We hope to pop back another time. Oh, the farm eggs we brought home are Deeeeeelicious!! Thank you for a memorable first camping trip!

Me my friend 2 young children one older child stayed for a night . It was a lovely little campsite very private off from road. Only a short walk from the river. Could build our own fires with fire pit provided. Graham the owner was absolutely fantastic. So friendly and welcoming . Very hands on making sure we had everything we needed and helping us go light our fire. He even brought he’s horse round for the children to have a ride on. Couldn’t of asked for a better nights stay. Next morning he was round again making sure everything was ok with our stay. He was a lovely man. I’d definitely recommend this campsite

We really enjoyed our stay at Orchard Farm. Graham was very accomodating and offered some good recommendations for what to do in the area.
The field is simple with a portaloo and bins and two benches at the top and bottom of the field. He has a horse and other animals next to the site, which my 3 y/o loved.
The ground slopes but we didn't have any issues with this. We would stay here again!

The field was on a slope so not a great deal of places to pitch but we did manage to get a good spot.

Easy to find and a great location in the outskirts of the village which is well set up with pubs, cafes, co-op and even a bank. Very picturesque and surrounded by animals with plenty of space for pitches. Owner was very friendly and helpful, option to have a fire pit set up as well.

    Disliked:

Site is on a slope so very few flat pitches but fine if you set your tent up facing down hill.
