  • Luxury shepherd's huts with a private woodfired Japanese soaking tub
  • Just off the A140; half an hour's drive to Ipswich and 45 to Norwich
  • In the grounds of a 17th-century country pub serving drinks and meals
This small collection of luxury glamping huts on the edge of the village of Stoke Ash is located in the grounds of a 17th-century inn. These smart units are built with quality and comfort in mind, with warm and welcoming interiors, ensuite bathrooms and – for an extra dollop of indulgence – access to private Japanese soaking tubs. All the amenities of the Grade-II listed The White Horse Inn are a few steps away, including a bar and a restaurant serving tasty meals and hot and cold snacks throughout the week. The kitchen strives to use the best seasonal British produce whenever possible, so you'll be doing your bit for the planet too. While it may prove difficult to leave these well-appointed shepherd's huts and the pub, the surrounding area has much to offer too. The site is slap bang in the middle of East Anglia in a convenient location just off the A140, half an hour's drive from Ipswich and 45 minutes from the cathedral city of Norwich. The edge of the Norfolk Broads is just over half an hour away too, while the Suffolk coast at Southwold or Aldeburgh can be reached within an hour.

Local attractions

Just over a mile away, you have Thornham Walks, a collection of strolls plus a café and gallery space set on a 2,000-acre country estate. Explore the walled garden, the butterfly beds, the bird hide, the folly or the water meadows, or for more outdoor excursions head in the direction of Thetford Forest Park (35 minutes) or the Norfolk Broads (35 minutes). For historical outings, set off to discover ancient hoards at the Sutton Hoo (45 minutes) or to explore the storied grounds of Framlingham Castle (30). For a healthy helping of nostalgia from the golden age of steam, book a ticket and ride the beautifully preserved Mid-Suffolk Light Railway (10 minutes) and see the East Anglian countryside in style. Other local attractions recommended by your hosts include Jimmy's Farm and Wildlife Park (30 minutes), where you can catch sight of both native and exotic species. The pretty Suffolk village of Debenham (15 minutes) should also be on your agenda at some point during your stay – it's home to old timbered buildings, traditional pubs and a paint-a-pot shop where you can while away a lazy afternoon…

Shepherd's hut

Liked: The whole experience was faultless. The staff at the pub went over and above to be accommodating and friendly. The food at the pub was amazing and having breakfast included was lovely. They had a wide variety of choices for different dietary needs. The hut was lovely and completed to a very high standard. Very clean throughout and the tub outside was lovely. All around an amazing stay, would definitely return. 5 star getaway!

Disliked: Nothing at all.
