  • Peaceful family-friendly glamping at a Suffolk smallholding
  • A 10-minute drive to Framlingham Castle; half an hour to the coast
  • Stylish ensuite shepherd's huts; meet the farm animals on site
Time to step back from your busy lifestyle for a while? Set off to the gorgeous Suffolk countryside and a stay at Honeysuckle Holidays, a family-friendly glamping site that’s part of a rural smallholding between the villages of Framlingham and Debenham. This is a real ‘rural experience’, say the owners – and by that they mean lots of peaceful space to relax in, wildlife to spot and lovely walks from just outside the gates. You’ll also have the chance to dip into farm life by collecting eggs for breakfast, giving the friendly pigs a stroke and meeting the pygmy goats and sheep. There are also tractor rides available for the kids – and if you’re here in summer you may have the added bonus of spotting cute lambs, chicks and piglets. So, a proper farm experience – and a very comfortable one too, because you’ll be staying in stylish hand-built shepherd’s huts that sleep up to four (in a double bed and two singles, all with high-quality mattresses, in a separate sleeping space at the rear of the hut). The open-plan main living space has a well-equipped kitchen and a dining space, and all your bed linen and towels are provided to keep packing lists nice and short. Each hut also has its own ensuite bathroom (with toilet, shower and sink) inside, plus an outdoor area with a lovely little wildflower patch – just the spot for an evening drink, a barbecue or just some time spent watching rural life unfold around you. You should be able to pick up plenty of supplies in either of the local villages (both 10 minutes’ drive, and also home to pubs, cafés and takeaways).

Local attractions

Can’t get enough of the cute farm animals? Boost your break with days out at Easton Farm Park (15 minutes’ drive) or Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park (35 minutes) – both packed with farmyard fun for all ages. Or how about some more exotic beasts? There are plenty of those to spot at Camel Park Oasis (25 minutes) and Banham Zoo (45 minutes). Meanwhile, RSPB Minsmere (40 minutes) is the place for the birdwatchers among you. Dipping into the area’s heritage, you may like to visit the 12th-century Framlingham Castle (10 minutes), the atmospheric ruins of Leiston Abbey (35 minutes) or National Trust - Sutton Hoo (35 minutes), an Anglo-Saxon burial site. Parham Airfield Museum (20 minutes) is another option, charting the story of the British Resistance in World War II. This may be a rural location, but the coast isn’t far off, so it’s easy to organise beach days in places like Aldeburgh (35 minutes) and Southwold (45 minutes).
