Quiet rural campsite on the track of the old Mid-Suffolk Light Railway
In central Suffolk, half an hour's drive from Bury St Edmunds
Simple campsite in the grounds of a farm; half a mile from the A140

Take the little ones to stomp through the Suffolk countryside or find a peaceful plot for a catch-up with friends at Brockford Sidings Campsite, a quiet rural site on the trackbed of the old Mid-Suffolk Light Railway. Although no trains have passed this way since the 1950s, it's still possible to see what the line known affectionately as the 'Middy' was like if you walk five minutes over the road to well-preserved Brockford station, where there's a volunteer-run museum and part of the track is still open to visitors. This low-key campsite is set on a large arable farm in central Suffolk in a convenient location half a mile from the A140 and the small village of Wetheringsett. The larger town of Stowmarket and the A14 dual carriageway are a 15-minute drive away to the west, meaning almost all of East Anglia is within easy reach. This is a dog-friendly site that's very close to a good number of cosy country pubs. The nearest are about a mile away, but the site owners recommend bringing a bicycle for the full Suffolk pub crawl experience.

Liked: What an amazing campsite! This place is not only spotlessly clean and very well maintained, it’s also got a quirky charm you may never find anywhere else. Not going to say what makes it quirky because it would spoil the lovely surprises you’ll get when you get arrive on site for the first time :-) Everything about the place has character - the gate across the entrance, the reception area, the bar and cafe (which are a very short walk away), they all have a charm that makes this site special. It’s a really peaceful place, possibly not for campers who like to party, because it’s a quiet site. The owner came to introduce himself just after we arrived and there is a number to call if you need to speak to him There are some other holiday lets there too which give the site a warm, nostalgic feel to it - it’s just brilliant and so well done - well worth seeing! The camping area itself is beautifully kept. Freshly mown grassed areas with electric hook up points. The waste disposal areas are very clean and completely odour free. It was a perfect camping experience for us.

Liked: Small, quiet campsite with lovely clean facilities. Play park for the little ones and dog park for our pup. We had a lovely weekend here, visiting the Mid Suffolk Light Railway and Frogs Farm.

Disliked: There seems to be a local pool for use by those that stay in the carriages/station house, it would have been great if this was available for campers too (or known about).

Liked: The showers are hot… which was great considering it poured down with rain most of the weekend! The toilets and showers clean. Great size pitches and Tony was lovely… thank you ❤️ dog park brilliant space. Children’s climbing frame/swing and slide and happy to let them go off to this and back on their own as you could see them from our pitch…

Disliked: The weather 😂we could not get the Wi-Fi but was not an issue for us?

After taking the kids to learn about old-fashioned travel at the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway Museum (five minutes' walk), take them off for animal encounters, agricultural insights and pony rides at Easton Farm Park (30 minutes' drive), or venture in the other direction towards Framlingham Castle (30 minutes) for family-friendly adventures on a medieval theme. If you liked that, then Henry II's unusual polygonal tower at Orford Castle (50 minutes) should be right up your street too. While here, make time to take in Orford village's pretty traditional cottages and welcoming pubs, or follow the sound of the waves and explore the wild wetlands of Orford Ness National Nature Reserve (50 minutes).
