Walks from the campsite

  • Family-friendly campsite on a working Snettisham farm in North Norfolk
  • Sandringham Estate 10 minutes’ drive and Holme Beach 15 minutes
  • Farm park and dog paddock on site; village pub 10 minutes’ walk
Set on a traditional family-run farm in rural Norfolk, Snettisham Meadows is on the outskirts of the pretty village of Snettisham and 15 minutes’ drive from North Sea beaches in the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Animal-mad campers, form an orderly queue please, as this 329-acre farm has several attractions up its sleeve for you, including meet-and-greets with pigs, pony rides, lamb feeding in spring and deer safaris. There’s also a dog paddock for rent so your four-legged companions can have a frisk around, and an area on the camping field is reserved for guests with dogs. Facilities include a toilet and shower block (with no hot water between November and February), washing-up sinks with cold water, a small shop at reception for essential supplies and tourist information, USB phone charging and a freezer for ice packs. Campfires and barbecues are permitted, and you can borrow firepits and buy logs for kindling from the site owners. After a fun-filled day exploring this lovely part of Norfolk, come back to your pitch and keep your fingers crossed for clear skies and some serious stargazing. The site is only 10 minutes’ walk from a popular village pub, where you are guaranteed a warm welcome should you fancy a spot of lunch or an evening pint.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked We enjoyed the open space (weekday at the end of September) position close to the pretty village of Snettisham. The facilities were good but I suspect there would be queues in the busy months. One thing to be aware of is that you have to pay for the lovely dog park next to the site which I expected to be included but it’s only a short drive to the beach where my dogs were very happy.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely site with everything we needed for a quick getaway. Toilet and shower facilities were clean and a decent size. Good location if wanting to see the beautiful North and West Norfolk.

Disliked There was never any paper towels for drying hands in the toilets. After popping to reception in the morning and early afternoon with no one being there, we decided to use the mobile number provided at 18:40 to ask if it was too late to hire a fire pit as the temperature was dropping and we looked forward to relaxing by the fire after doing Run Sandringham. Over half an hour later we had a text to say it was too late. Maybe it should be advertised that you need to request much earlier to hire a fire pit, rather than at dusk when you would use it.

Local attractions

If you can drag your youngsters away from the animals on site, they can have a runaround on the climbing frames and soft-play equipment at Farmer Fred’s Adventure Play Barn (five minutes’ drive). SEA LIFE Hunstanton (10 minutes) is the place for encounters with seals and turtles, while there are dinosaur trails to follow at ROARR! theme park (50 minutes). When it’s time for a day at the seaside, you have several options including Brancaster Beach (20 minutes) for bracing strolls along the dunes to the remains of Branodunum Roman Fort. Backed by rainbow-coloured beach huts, Wells-Next-the-Sea (half an hour) has opportunities for birdwatching, crabbing and paddling in the shallows, and Holme Beach (15 minutes) is a secluded sandy expanse known for its great sunset views. Add a bit of culture into the holiday entertainment with a guided tour of the royal apartments at Sandringham Estate (10 minutes), where you can also walk your canine chums in acres of groomed parkland. Holkham Hall (35 minutes) is another fine mansion with lavishly OTT interiors and formal water gardens, while ornate Blickling Hall (50 minutes) is known for its Jacobean architecture and a priceless book collection in the Long Gallery Library.
