  • Simple site in an apple orchard a five-minute drive from Tenbury Wells
  • Ludlow 15 minutes’ drive; National Trust – Berrington Hall 20 minutes
  • Firewood and charcoal for sale; firepits; a half-hour walk from pubs
The spectacular countryside of Worcestershire and Shropshire is within your grasp when you stay at Knotted Roots Orchard. This peaceful spot (with nicely spread out pitches among native wildflowers) sits on an organic apple orchard surrounded by gentle hills. Speaking of which, both the Shropshire Hills National Landscape and the Wyre Forest National Nature Reserve are about 20 minutes’ drive away – and that’s your not-so-subtle cue to pack your hiking boots and poles. The site is blissfully quiet (except for the twit-twooing owls at night) but not remote: Tenbury Wells is just under a mile away, and that means that supermarkets, butchers, greengrocers and any other shop you might need during your stay can be reached within a five-minute drive (or a half-hour walk). Restaurants, too (and pubs), if the idea of tending to the barbecue doesn’t appeal. However, if it does appeal, there are firepits around the site (and a pizza oven, too, though you should book that in advance), and firewood and home-made charcoal for sale. The simple facilities are well maintained, with a composting toilet, a shower and a washing-up area, plus picnic tables.
