Liked: My sister and I camped here for one night and picked a doozy! It absolutely hammered down and blew a gale all night, we ended up sleeping in the car eventually but despite the weather we couldn't have asked for more from the site.
The field is very cosy and well placed if anything were to go wrong, which was important to us as two women camping in unfamiliar surroundings.
The night was rough but the next morning the worst of it was over. There was no flooding, no boggy patches of mud, and in the sun the site and surroundings are absolutely gorgeous. The grass was freshly cut and there wasnt a scrap of litter anywhere. We lit a fire in a portable firepit to make breakfast and were glad to stretch our legs. There was a tap for spring water but we had brought our own so didnt need to use it. The sheep were bleating next door, the breeze was calm, and it was such a pleasant change from the busy traffic and fumes of city life.
What a beautiful farm, obviously very well cared for. The animals were a lovely sight in the morning - sheep, cows, pheasants - all with babies, and we were never made to feel like we were in the way of the farm work. Even when we accidentally drove into the middle of a herd cows we were directed with a lot of smiles, patience and grace. We were particularly impressed with the farmer who we saw in a jeep, tractor, and then quad all within an hour, zipping around. She was absolutely lovely and a complete badass as well. She just made everything look so easy, and we couldn't believe she was a mum as well! Superwoman! Just another shining example of the salt of the earth, hard working people who live in the area.
It would be crazy not to mention that the price we paid for a night here in the middle of August was an absolute bargain! Such a funny, memorable point in our trip, and so much more beautiful than it looks in photos, we would love to come back.
Disliked: The only downside I can think of is maybe that one of the toilets seemed to have been vandalised before we arrived and was out of order for the first half hour or so, but the owners had it well in hand and it wasnt an inconvenience. Some things are unavoidable unfortunately, no fault of the site at all.
