  • Pastoral and dog-friendly glampsite in scenic Shropshire lakelands
  • A 25-minute drive from Wrexham and 40 minutes from Shrewsbury
  • Well-equipped ensuite pods with electric, wifi and underfloor heating
Park up for your hols five minutes’ drive outside Ellesmere at Archers' Meadow Glamping, a family-friendly glampsite owned and operated by Janet and Ian Kelly. The dog-friendly Shropshire site is well situated for stays with canine chums, as four-legged best friends aren’t just welcome in pods – there are plenty of dog-friendly coffee shops and pubs within easy reach too, and a whole host of lengthy rambles to choose from to earn that pint or cream cake. Prefer to explore without the dog? The site is on the official Land’s End to John O’Groats route, and a local business will deliver rented bikes to site if needed. If staying put is preferable, the views from site are pretty fine too. In the lakelands of Shropshire, overlooking Cheshire Plain and the Welsh hills, vistas seen from the pods’ private decking add a pastoral charm to proceedings. On days when cosiness is key, the pods will do the job nicely: underfloor heating ensures no icy toes, and electricity and wifi keep entertainment on hand. Food is sorted in the pods too – a starter pack of tea, coffee, sugar and milk awaits guests’ arrival for a welcoming cuppa, the kitchenette allows for basic cooking, and a lawned area outside is set aside for barbecues.

Meadow View camping pod

Liked: I don’t go camping ever, I was just looking for a quiet weekend in nature with my dog and Archer’s Meadow Glamping did not disappoint. The cabin was warm, clean, and well stocked. It was more luxurious than most hotels I’ve stayed in! The bathroom was immaculate with a good pressure shower. Clean/fluffy towels, wonderful shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. The bed was comfortable, if a little firm. Plenty of pillows and extra throw blankets to hand. The kitchen was stocked with the essentials and a few extras like milk/coffee/tea. Everything was clean and easy to use. There was plenty of space for me and my Labrador to relax and move around. I enjoyed sitting on the couch with a view out the glass doors of a rolling countryside. It was very peaceful at my time of visiting. The porch was gorgeously situated to have a view of the sunrise in the mornings. Bring some stargazing kit if you can because the view of the sky at night is insane. I didn’t use the fire facilities because it was damp when I visited (mid feb), but they appeared well maintained. I found the wifi to be excellent, but I don’t think there were many guests during my stay so I couldn’t say what it would be like height of summer with a full camp. There isn’t much in the village outside of a few DELICIOUS restaurants, but the mere is the place to be! An easy/direct, 25 minute walk from the campsite. It had a beautiful path around the mere (studded with bits of local art), an amazing kids park, a place to feed swans/ducks/geese, and a dog friendly restaurant right on the water called The Boathouse. Wonderful service, delicious food, and possibly the best mocha I’ve ever had. All I wanted was a quiet weekend, no stress, walking my dog and reading a book; and this place gave me all that. I always felt safe and relaxed. I plan on booking another trip here in one of the bigger cabins and bringing my husband and daughter along!

Disliked: There isn’t as much space for a dog to run around as you’d think (though they are permitted to run around the site). The fields you see all belong to a farmer and the fence line is actually pretty close to the cabins. There was one trail directly on the site (the dingle), but it was rained out at my time of visit (which is no one’s fault!) but I would have had to have my dog on a lead to use it because it runs alongside a poultry farm. If you’re looking for big nature walks with a dog, I think you do have to get off and away from the site quite a ways.

Cheshire View camping pod

Liked: Ian & Janet are fantastic hosts and from the moment of arrival we were welcomed and given great ideas of places to go with our dog. This included a beautiful local Dog friendly Greek restaurant which offered beautiful food. & only 30 minutes walk from the Pod. The pods are clean, warm & cosy . The fire pit is an excellent addition and we used it one evening during our stay. I 100% recommend staying here
