  • Adults-only touring park 15 minutes’ drive from Oakham in Rutland
  • Aqua Park Rutland 15 minutes’ drive, and Burghley House 20 minutes
  • Free use of coarse-fishing lakes; woodland walks and wildlife on site
Here’s chance to hone your fishing skills at Stretton Lakes Touring Park, an adults-only site set in 120 acres of farmland, 15 minutes’ drive from Oakham in the middle of Rutland countryside. All campsite guests have free angling on the park’s seven coarse-fishing lakes – and you don’t need to walk very far, as there’s fishing right in front of every south-facing, hardstanding lakeside pitch. Not too enamoured of fishing? The tourer pitches are surrounded by loads of footpaths, excellent for wanderings with – or without – any accompanying dogs (if your pet gets muddy, don’t fret as the site has its own dedicated canine showers). You’re welcome to get lost in neighbouring Stretton and George Henry woods, and if you tread quietly on your way, you may get to see the fallow deer that also sometimes graze around the pitches. There are two award-winning pubs within walking distance, so you can forget about driving and enjoy a big night out. Book well ahead of time and have a wander down to Stretton or Clipsham villages (both 20 minutes’ walk) for gourmet dining treats. A few practical details now: modern shower facilities are top-notch, with rainfall showers in private cubicles, smart oak washstands and stone basins. You can keep on top of the laundry too, thanks to on-site washing machines and tumble dryers.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Loved the view of the lake, the site is gorgeous, quite and peaceful. It's our second visit and we will be returning.
Having arrival time up to 9pm is fantastic which allowed us to travel straight from work. I love the green spaces and the decision of the owners not to spoil it by adding loads of pitches.

Disliked The only improvement is to have wifi available to use at your pitch as this comes standard in most touring sites.

Liked Loved the quietness, cleanliness and excellent shower block. Lake was stocked well for a superb day fishing. Very easy catching big fish! Walk around the neighbouring meadows wood seeing deer, rabbits and wild birds was delightful.

Disliked Shop was not very well stocked and meant a drive out to get basics like milk.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked What can I say about the facilities block? Simply stunning! Easy access to full service pitches with relaxed booking-in process.

Disliked Site is some distance from any local facilities, and too far to walk, so a car or other transport is needed. Site needs to 'mature' -plenty of small trees and hedges that will enhance the Site in a few years. WiFi not site wide, only in facilities block.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Our 3rd time here we keep coming back because we love it so much, the facilities are the best we have seen. Love the peace & quiet with it being adults only no loud music no loud youngsters, we find it’s people our age who thankfully are respectful of others.
Staff very friendly & welcoming.
Already have another visit booked 🤗

Disliked My only criticism is (and not the sites fault) that some people find it difficult to clean the toilet after themselves which isn’t nice when toilet brushes are provided to clean up after yourself. I guess this happens everywhere but this is the only site I have so far felt comfortable using the facilities.

Thankfully the cleaning staff do an exceptional job and obviously work very hard to maintain cleanliness

Local attractions

The UK’s smallest country might be tiny in stature but it certainly packs a sightseeing punch. The local town of Stamford is known for its handsome Georgian architecture, while pretty Oakham (both 15 minutes’ drive) has a Norman castle as well as loads of stylish shops if you’re looking to offload some cash. If it’s picnic weather, journey to Melton Mowbray (25 minutes) to pick up a couple of the local pork pies to eat on your travels. For active adventures with the family, Rutland Water hosts inflatable and floating climbing courses at Aqua Park Rutland (15 minutes), dinghy sailing at Rutland Sailing Club and waterside golf at a nine-hole course (both 20 minutes). Trout fishing and birdwatching for teals, herons and rare ospreys are also possible around the reservoir’s shoreline. Have a wander up to the Iron Age fort at Burrough Hill (half an hour) for far-reaching views across Rutland, and in summer, take a guided tour of ornate Burghley House (20 minutes), an impressive Tudor-era mansion with Capability Brown-designed gardens. If you have young kids with you, give them a break from culture by treating them to gentle rollercoasters and falconry displays at Twinlakes Park (25 minutes).
