  • Glamping tents on a historic site in spectacular Rutland countryside
  • A 10-minute drive to Rutland Water; 25 minutes to Burghley House
  • Themed bell tents with private bathrooms, kids’ nature trails on site
Hidden deep in Rutland countryside and yet less than two hours’ drive from London or Birmingham, Briarwood Glamping offers total rural serenity accompanied by a backdrop of daily chatter from the birds, sheep and cows. Back in the 1800s, Briarwood was the source of the bricks that built many local properties including the stately Grimsthorpe Castle (35 minutes’ drive, with lots of summer events for kids) – you can still see the imposing Victoria chimney in the old brickyard, today used as a central hub for guests. And the surprises don’t end there – in the 1960s this was a naturist camp… but luckily today clothes are compulsory on site. With the beautiful Rutland Water (10 minutes) close by, grab the chance for glorious lakeside walks, fishing and birdwatching, or treat the kids to thrill rides at Aqua Park Rutland (15 minutes). Three gastropubs are within walking distance if you don’t fancy cooking, and the lovely towns of Uppingham, Stamford and Oakham are each 15 minutes’ drive away, well worth a peek for their mellow stone architecture and indie stores. But there’s so much to do and explore on site that you may never want to budge. Instead, you can explore private woodlands and ponds, send the kids off to follow the fairy and pixie trails, or try your hand at bark rubbing – all accompanied by spectacular views. As well as individually themed tents, one of many luxury bonuses at this glamping site are the private bathroom pods, offering hot water, a power shower, loo and basin exclusive to you and your family during your stay – what could be more welcoming after a happy day exploring out and about?
