  • Off-grid Rutland site with 30 peaceful acres of pasture and woodland
  • A 25-minute drive to Rutland Water; half an hour to Burghley House
  • Dogs welcome; access to footpaths and bridleways from the farm
If you’re all about the countryside and things like rural bike rides or dog walks among all the greenery, you'll be pleased with your lot at Goose Pasture Farm. This pet-friendly site is in England’s smallest county, Rutland, where there’s lots to do by way of walking, biking, boating and birdwatching (especially at Rutland Water, which is a 25-minute drive away). Off-grid your style? Well, Goose Pasture Farm is a good match then, as there’s a mains water tap and no other facilities. The peaceful pitches are in 30 acres of pasture and woodland, so you’ll relax with the scenery rather than any tech distractions. It’s a peaceful patch here – on a ‘no through road’ with little traffic and no near neighbours. The owners live on site and operate a small horse livery that makes the most of the splendid nearby off-road bridleway network (as guests on foot or bikes can, too). As Goose Pasture Farm is set on a slope (with a few flat spaces), expect some stunning sunrises and sunsets from the top too. About a mile away (15 minutes’ walk) is the village of Belton In Rutland, where guests can get their pub fix. Further out, the market towns of Oakham (15 minutes' drive) and Uppingham (10 minutes) have a pretty collection of eateries and independent shops. Cars can be left on the hardstanding and equipment can be taken to the site by hand or wheelbarrow. Off-road roof tents have easy access as long as they have enough clearance, and while the site’s accessible by all vehicles, a few select areas will require an off-road vehicle. There may be some wagging tails around the farm, as dogs are welcome as long as they’re kept under control at all times. Sheep and other livestock graze in the adjacent field, so picking up poo is a must on the farm and on the footpaths.

Local attractions

With 4,200 acres of countryside, Rutland Water (25 minutes’ drive) is more than just a reservoir. Arm yourself with a golf club on the golf course, perhaps. Cycling, fishing, watersports and a seasonal aqua park are some other bits to get busy with… or you may decide to keep your eyes peeled for ospreys in the summer. A peaceful day out is in store at the plant nursery and tearoom of Barnsdale Gardens (20 minutes). If that isn’t quite enough greenery already, Burghley House (half an hour) also has an extensive deer park and Rockingham Castle (20 minutes) is a former castle and hunting lodge surrounded by forest.
